Introducing “Nova” - the newest arrival from Robert Glick

For this piece, Robert set out for “a successful balance of the architecture in the composition combined with an adventurous but refined color palette, fostering an emotional visual experience.” At its center sits a luminous white circle he describes as a celestial body - “precise and powerful” - grounded by a transparent amber crescent, floating above soft, restful clouds. Below, interlocking color fields are threaded together by long, sinuous bands. Robert states, “The color fields have a conversation with one another across the composition, while the bands bring action and energy.” The result is a piece that’s architectural and instinctive at the same time - hard-edged geometry loosened up by a warmer, more adventurous palette. Currently featured in our primary showroom, “Nova” represents the kind of balance Robert has spent a career chasing: structure with enough give in it to feel emotional.

Robert has been a creative for as long as he can remember. However, for him, painting isn’t a chosen path so much as an inherited one. “It seems to be organic or intrinsic in my DNA,” he says. “From my very earliest years, throughout every level of education, and throughout my art, design and graphics career, I have always been drawing, painting, and designing — while fascinated with color, shapes, and compositions.” That lifelong pull toward color and form is what carries into every new painting, “Nova” included. Decades in, that same curiosity still drives the work: an ongoing fascination with how shape, color, and structure can hold an emotion.

“A naturally beautiful woman is like a fantastic flower, fascinating to all who behold her.” - Maura Petersen

That idea is the heart of Maura’s “Joan” series. Growing up, Joan and her husband Bill, friends of Maura’s parents, would come over periodically for dessert, coffee, or dinner. Maura remembers Joan as “one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen,” admitting, “I didn’t even notice her husband because he didn’t stand out in the same way.” She recalls one evening when she was 8 years old, racing to answer a knock at the door and finding Joan there, “smiling and beautiful,” saying something kind to her as she let them in. That single moment became the origin of the series. Each painting is set in the dining room of Maura’s childhood home, where she had dinner with her family every night and remembers “every space and object in that room,” with light, shadow, and color arranged “to set off the beautiful woman.” It’s become one of Maura’s most celebrated series, shown across several of the gallery’s exhibitions, and “Joan IV” is its newest member.

Yesterday, LA-based artist Rizaldy Celi Jr. stopped by - and before leaving, added the final touches to a painting live in the gallery. He arrived with a first look at a new series he’s been developing, and spent the afternoon with us before setting up an easel to finish “The Crying Game” right here in the gallery.

“I’ve been moving more. In life in general I suppose. I think my work in painting is following that. Life is more about what we’re doing, and not so much about what it looks like. Art is the same.”

There’s something special about watching an artist finish a piece that photographs of the final work never quite capture - the last brushstrokes, the small decisions made in real time, the instant a painting is complete, and the brush is finally set down. We were lucky enough to see it unfold in real time.

Lesley Anne Spowart’s Quiet Yet Powerful New Arrivals

Lesley Anne Spowart’s paintings are about presence—simple, quiet, but deeply felt. Her textured surfaces and subtle color shifts create a world where stillness and movement coexist.

“5 Orange Trees” is a study in restraint. A rolling landscape in muted earth tones is punctuated by five bright red trees, their placement giving the scene a rhythmic quality. The simplicity of form makes the colors feel even more powerful, turning an open hillside into something almost symbolic.
