Mariela Contreras’ love for poetry and natural ability to write music allows her to capture her life experience through song. Her intimate melodies and lyrics are inspired by love, nature, and the complicated relationship between the heart and mind.
In this performance, Mariela will be joined by arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Tonga Ross Ma’u. Together they will debut music she wrote during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alex Arango and his five-piece band will present a night of original music that explores the rhythms and styles that influenced him. His set will include Colombian cumbias and Vallenatos performed on the accordion as well as Hip Hop and R&B pieces featuring special guest vocalists.

San Diego Sound Project: Brenda Greggio
Pianist Brenda Greggio shares her love for jazz by performing original compositions, her arrangements of standard tunes, and a few more contemporary pieces. She will be joined by bassist John Murray and drummer Julien Cantelm.
Seventeen-year-old Brenda Greggio is a young jazz pianist and composer. Currently a senior in high school at The San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, she has been studying classical piano since the age of four and jazz since the age of eight. She has studied with acclaimed musicians such as Gilbert Castellanos and Kamau Kenyatta. She is a student of the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory in San Diego and of the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Brenda was a YoungArt Jazz Composition winner in 2021 and was also selected to be the pianist of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s “Next Generation Women in Jazz Combo” performance in 2020 and 2021.

Miranda Altman
Miranda Altman is the Senior Director of Program Operations at Little Kids Rock, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives by restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in our schools. Since joining the organization in 2009, she has helped expand the mission from serving 35,000 children annually to its current reach of more than 550,000 students today. Throughout the past decade she has worked to grow many programmatic areas of the organization, including the vibrant teacher community, training operations and the organization’s annual professional development conference, the Modern Band Summit. Currently, she provides leadership in areas that include instrument distribution, certification logistics, partner relationships and financial oversight. Miranda is part of the Women of NAMM (WON) 2021 class, a NAMM-backed initiative that supports women in the music products industry to develop their leadership and is passionate about amplifying women's voices in the industry.
An avid music maker, she loves organizing staff jam sessions and has led beginner lessons in lead guitar both at the Modern Band Summit and via Little Kids Rock’s YouTube Channel. She is always excited for any opportunity to play and enjoys supporting local bands in her local New York/New Jersey metro area.
We were serenaded by several guests yesterday with this wonderful rendition of "Teach Your Children." So lovely and inspiring! You never know what magic you'll find in the Museum.

The Museum of Making Music welcomes violinist Jakub Trasak for a special discussion about his career, musical influences, and the connection to his instrument on this live episode of [email protected].
Jakub Trasak grew up in the Czech Republic. He began playing violin at the age of three. By age 15, Trasak had recorded three solo CDs, performed hundreds of concerts, and appeared on television in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
He earned a degree in violin and vocal studies at the Conservatory of Jaroslav Jezek in Prague and attended Berklee College of Music on a scholarship to study with the finest teachers in contemporary music. His mentors include Alain Mallet, Jamey Haddad, Dave Samuels, Christian Howes, Eugene Friesen, and Walter Beasley. Jakub has also studied with Mark O’Connor, Darol Anger, Matt Glaser, Buddy Spicher, Natalie McMaster, Rachel Barton, Byron Berline, and other notable musicians.
Trasak is a founding member of Rhythm of the Universe, a collaboration that brings together musicians from 90 countries to promote peace and unity through music and music education. He has produced events and performed at Boston Symphony Hall, Berklee College of Music Gala, Community Dispute Settlement Center Gala, Boston’s Hatch Shell, and TEDxBoston.
