Today’s operational environment is complex, fast-moving, and often unpredictable. Success demands leaders who can think critically, act decisively, and adapt in real time—often with incomplete information and under pressure.

Our "Perspectives in Military History Lecture" series is designed to do exactly that: cultivate leaders capable of operating in multi-domain, contested environments while leading joint and interagency teams.

The series is open to the public: in-person and on YouTube.

These are not abstract discussions—they are grounded in real-world challenges, strategic insight, and professional experience.

The lessons in leadership, decision-making, and adaptability are relevant far beyond the uniform.

We invite you to watch, engage, and reflect.

We’re proud to share that our staff was recognized by the Society for Military History with its prestigious Public History Award for the exhibit "This We’ll Defend: Celebrating 250 Years of Army History!" 🇺🇸

Step into history and experience an immersive journey like no other.

The exhibit features a meticulously recreated 18th-century tavern inspired by The Wayside Inn —a setting that brings to life the vital role “publick houses” played in shaping colonial resistance. These spaces once served as hubs for debate, decision-making, and community during a time of uncertainty and transformation.

As you continue through the exhibit, you’ll enter a space inspired by the Assembly Room of Independence Hall, where carefully selected artifacts and objects highlight personal connections to the Army’s story and the passion behind preserving it.

“This kind of immersive environment encourages visitors to truly consider what life was like during such a complex and tumultuous time,” shared Dr. Kate Lemay, Director of USAHEC.

Come see why this award-winning exhibit is capturing attention and inspiring visitors. Learn more: https://ahec.armywarcollege.edu/

This Week in Military History:

1962 - Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, longtime director of the Selective Service System, distributed the "Catalogue of Correspondence Courses, Selective Service System."

Gen. Hershey led the Selective Service for nearly 30 years, overseeing the draft during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, and supervising the induction of more than 14.5 million men into military service.

Documents like this highlight military education, which shape military readiness across generations.

As part Army University, the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) continues that tradition by providing research support, historical analysis, and archival collections that inform our force and the broader military community.
