Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

On this Memorial Day, the Cape Coral Museum of History reflects on the sacrifices that have shaped not only our nation, but communities like ours. Many who helped build and grow Cape Coral were veterans and military families, carrying with them stories of service, resilience, and dedication.

Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy and in the history we preserve.

We invite you to take a moment today to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to honor the lives they lived.

Welcome back to Saturday Snapshots! 📸

This mural segment, taken from the one located at the Cape Coral Museum of History, brings together elements of Calusa life in Southwest Florida — shell mounds, canals, canoes, fishing technologies, foodways, tools, and artistic traditions — reminding us that the Calusa were part of a highly complex and sophisticated society deeply connected to the coastal environments of SWFL.

Did you know that two of the largest and most important Calusa sites are located right here in Lee County? Mound Key, believed to have been the main town of the Calusa kingdom, and Pineland on Pine Island both contain massive shell mounds, engineered canals, watercourts, and evidence of large-scale community planning.

We invite YOU to help commemorate America’s history by photographing American Flags flown in Cape Coral, from local car dealerships and businesses, to one flown in your own front yard.

Your photograph will contribute to a photo mosaic representing the American Flag as part of our upcoming exhibit “Salute to America - the 250th Anniversary.”

We are seeking 250 photographs, each symbolizing a year in America's history.

Additionally, please provide a separate photo featuring yourself and any companions who helped capture your image of the flag; this will also be included in the exhibit.

Be a part of history – submit your photos by Flag Day, June 14th to [email protected].

Don’t forget to include your name and where you took the photo!

Welcome back to Saturday Snapshots! 📸

Before GPS and smartphones, landmarks helped guide the way and in Cape Coral, few were as iconic as the “golf tee” water tower near the Cape Coral Country Club.

Built in the early 1960s to serve the city’s growing community, this towering structure was designed with a creative twist. Its top was painted white to resemble a giant golf ball, while the base mimicked a tee. The result was not just functional infrastructure, but a landmark you could spot from miles away.

As you can see in these rare photos, the tower stood tall over Cape Coral’s flat landscape, becoming a trusted point of reference for residents and visitors alike. For years, it helped people find their way home, a true symbol of a young city finding its footing.

Do you remember seeing the golf tee water tower or using it as your guide around town? Share your memories below! 👇
