We are pleased to announce that the Canterbury Historical Society has been chosen to partner with the Stop & Shop Community Bag Program for the month of September! Every $2.50 reusable Community Bag sold throughout September 2026 at the Norwichtown Stop & Shop (42 Town Street in Norwich) will give back $1 to our organization which can be used for our programs and projects. We are very appreciative of the support!

Here's a fun (and informative) little piece from WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News that briefly explains Connecticut's connection to Ohio's Western Reserve. It even mentions our favorite Canterbury surveyor -- and founder of a town that would bear his name, though not his spelling -- Gen. Moses Cleaveland. The General was both born and buried in Canterbury.

Even though the weather was still pretty dang hot, we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the big Canterbury Parade this morning! There were lots of fun, colorful floats on display and, of course, lots of folks along the route full of good cheer! Hope you all are having a good celebration of America on her 250th birthday! We'll look forward to seeing you again for America251 in 2027...if not sooner!

Like many in eastern Connecticut, we were saddened to learn of the recent passing of a wonderful, generous, talented man: Bruce John. In 2024, Bruce joined us for our annual Old Home Day, and we loved him for it. Sincere condolences to Bruce's family, as well as many friends and fans who are reeling from this loss.
