This week's gallery spotlight is: Sandy Crawford has had a camera in hand from a very young age, mainly photographing Hereford cattle and horses on her family ranch in western North Dakota. As a 4-H project, she won numerous state and national awards in photography; she also remembers selling on of her horses to by her first 35mm camera.
For the last 40 years, Sandy has owned and operated Classic Leather Designs. Her art focus has been designing and creating high-end western leather goods that now includes incorporating photography into that business. In 2018, Sandy married Freeman Crawford. Freeman recognized Sandy’s love for photography and encouraged and supported her as she pursued her passion. now, together they travel to photograph horses, cattle, and wildlife while still working together in the leather shop. Freeman’s gift with woodworking has provided a unique opportunity to create perfect frames to tell the stories of Sandy’s photos. Sandy’s greatest joy is capturing God’s creation, both through realistic portrayal of the grit and life of the American West and sometimes using editing techniques to create the romantic dream of the west. Every adventure starts with a prayer for God to show her something special that will draw her audience into the realization that only Almighty God could create the unique beauty of every piece of nature. Sometimes that prayer results in epic images and sometimes it’s just about calm reflection that we, as people all need. She and her husband look forward to many adventures and sharing them through these images.
