This Canaan farm dates back to 1700's. The original farmhouse is still a home. I have been lucky enough to have this beautiful place in my family since 1980 when my parents, Robert and Donna Keaney bought it. Back then it cost only $65,000!
Before that Harry and Francis Sanders lived on the farm, and before that Harry's parents.
To this day the property remains an active farm. There were once so many in our town, but sadly that number has dwindled over the years. The farm is currently owned by my daughter and her husband, Rebecca and JJ Hutchinson and their children. It's nice to see a younger generation keeping the farming tradition alive!
This page began 6 years ago this month and I have been posting weekly since then. I want to say thank you for all the engagement over the years! I will be stepping away and passing the torch to the dedicated ladies of the Canaan Historical Society. They will continue to share the rich history of Canaan.
Thank you again,
Gretchen Keaney

On this Memorial Day weekend, we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇲
Thank you to Jeannie Dickey for her contribution of the photos of gravestones of fallen soldiers.
Did you know that every town received at least one unknown soldier to take care of, honor and to never forget the sacrifice they made for their country? Look at how many unknown soldiers are buried here in Canaan. Heartbreaking.
