The Richardson Maritime Museum extends our sincere gratitude to the Waddell Foundation for their generous $4,000 donation to support the creation of a climate-controlled storage area for our ship models, library materials, and historic artifacts that require specialized preservation.

The Waddell Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting local charitable organizations that directly benefit the residents of Dorchester County, continuing the legacy of a family that loved this community above all else.

This important contribution will help ensure that the Museum’s collections are properly protected and preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy. Thank you to the Waddell Foundation for investing in the preservation of our maritime heritage!

The Richardson Maritime Museum would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Cambridge Yacht Club Foundation, the Nathan Foundation, Accurate Marine, and Arnold Hammer for their generous support of our STEM to Stern SKUA boatbuilding class.

Their contributions are helping provide local youth with hands on experience in woodworking, maritime heritage, teamwork, and STEM education through the construction and racing of SKUA class boats. Support from community partners like these makes programs like this possible, and we are truly grateful for their investment in the next generation.

📢 Volunteer Call! 📢

Last year, many of you lent a helping hand to move books for our inventory work, and now we need your support once again! We’re excited to announce that we've been lucky enough to have a SU graduate intern join us at the museum, and we need to make room for their contributions.

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help move ship models from upstairs to the climate control room.

If we can gather a bunch of volunteers, we can get this done quickly! Remember, many hands make light work!

Date & Time: May 30, 2026 @ 930am
Location: RMM 103 Hayward Street
Bring your energy and a friend, and let’s make this happen together!
Coffee and Donuts will be provided!

Please comment below or message us if you're able to join! Thank you for your continued support!

Our first Sawdust & Sisterhood class has officially wrapped up! Over the past several weeks, participants learned woodworking basics, shop safety, tool use, and the process of building their very own cutting boards from start to finish. We are so proud of what this group accomplished and grateful to everyone who joined us for this hands on experience at the Richardson Maritime Museum. Thank you to all of the participants, volunteers, and instructors who helped make this class such a success!

What does it take to build a boat from scratch?
Students from DCPS Career Coaching Program and local homeschooling programs are finding out firsthand!
Working with Chesapeake Light Craft kits, they’re learning traditional boatbuilding techniques—removing, shaping, and assembling each component into two high-performance Skua racing boats.
With mentorship from experienced builders, these students are turning raw materials into something extraordinary.
Thanks to Cambridge Yacht Club Foundation grant, Accurate Marine and the Nathan Foundation - We're one step closer to having the SKUA in the water!

Learning by doing is at the heart of the STEM to Stern Youth Program at the Richardson Maritime Museum.
This season, students from DCPS Career Coaching Program and local homeschool groups are working side by side to build two Skua racing boats.

The best part of this build isn’t just the boat, it’s the crew!
This group is showing what teamwork is all about, supporting each other, sharing skills, and putting in the work together. It’s awesome to watch their confidence grow right alongside the SKUA build.
