Kit Carson County Carousel

Kit Carson County Carousel Built in 1905 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, this carousel is a National Historic Landmark.

Of the nearly 4000 wooden carousels carved in America between 1885 and the 1930s, fewer than 150 are still in existence. One of the finest of these survivors, however, can be found on the county fairgrounds in Burlington, CO.

The Kit Carson County Carousel has added a plaque to the museum. You may remember when the McDonalds in Burlington CO had a display of many items about PTC #6. Will Morton Vlll carved a replica of the armored horse to display in the center of the eating area. The replica wasn’t a full sized Carousel horse however it was close to a 1/2 size.

John Caruso, a National Carousel Association member from New York took a picture of the armored horse on display at McDonalds. This Spring, John shared a copy of the picture he took and a plaque was created and that plaque is now on display in the museum. Be sure and look for this display when visiting the museum.

Information will continue about the restoration that was started 50 years ago in 1976.

The Carousel is now open 11 am - 6 pm daily through Labor Day. Stop by for a ride you will never forget! Take a stroll through the museum. Then mark your day with a souvenir from our gift shop.

Opening Day is nearly here! The Kit Carson County Carousel is officially open for the summer one week from today. We'll be open 11 am to 6 pm daily from Saturday, May 23 through Monday, September 7.

The Angel Pony, Lion, Camels, and all the rest of the animals are ready to take you for a magical ride! We can't wait to see you!!
