I used Kennywood as a timeline for my only train ride to Kennywood in 1961. This photo has to be in the early 1960,s. Today, I can't believe that I was happy to sit on a dead stuffed horse. There was always a line there for the photo and to be je**ed around on a stuffed horse.

The last year that passenger trains in the Burgettstown area was some time between June 1961 and 1962. June 1961 was the last year that passenger trains went to Kennywood, the next year we traveled by buses, The Raccoon Train Station (Joffre) became a private home, I do not know the exact year that it was torn down. It was certainly a beautiful building and active area. Mile Post 25.6 miles from Pittsburgh.

This is the same Burgettstown baseball field that was shared in the earlier posting. Notice how most of the baseball hats are worn by the players and not the crowd.

This is a photo of a railroad building that was on the north side of the Main Line near Burgettstown. In 1967 there was still a crank phone and a small stove inside the small buildings. Despite the small size, it was painted in the the standard railroad colors of umber with sienna.

Main Street of Slovan. Many of the buildings are the same but, Rt. 18 traffic certainly travels a different a speed. Fort Vance Historical Society was formed in 1969. We are very fortunate that the earlier members donated such beautiful photos of our past. I makes one wonder that with today's digital photos...what photos will be shared with the next generation.
