Our Pender County Museum in our recent snow. The museum was built in 1917 as a private residence for Amos Burton, a former mayor of Burgaw. It is the oldest brick home in Burgaw. You can only imagine the many winter snows this home has endured over the last 109 years!

The Pender County Museum will be closed today- January 31 because of winter forecast. Stay warm and the museum should be back on normal schedule next week.

The Burgaw Area Garden Club decorated the museum today. A huge thank you to the club for the beautiful decorations.

📜 Celebrating Service & Scholarship in Pender County! 🏛️

On Saturday, May 31st, we held our annual Membership Meeting at the Pender County Historical Society and had the honor of recognizing two of our most dedicated members—Shelby Battle and Jeanette Jones—with the Mary Caputo Award for Service. Their outstanding contributions to the museum and our Board have been truly invaluable. We are so grateful for their passion, commitment, and leadership.

We also celebrated the next generation of historians by honoring the winners of our annual Pender History Scholarship Competition. Our 1st Place winner shared a powerful essay on the rich history of Pender County and highlighted how teachers at Topsail High School are making history today through their dedication to diversity and equity in education. Her insight and voice give us great hope for the future!

🎉 If you haven’t visited the Pender County Museum, now is a perfect time! Come explore local history, honor the stories of our community, and see firsthand the work of those who make our mission possible.

👐 We’re also always looking for volunteers to help preserve and promote Pender’s past—join us in keeping history alive!
