The vast majority of GSHA members are proud descendants of the first Spanish Europeans to settle in what is now New Mexico, United States of America, in 1598 or earlier. GSHA publishes an extensive quarterly journal, Nuestras Raices and a quarterly newsletter, Noticias de Nuestras Raices, available to members. GSHA annually hosts a genealogical conference and business meeting, where attendees gather together both as genealogists and historians to share the newest information, and as friends and colleagues to renew friendships and affiliations as 'primos'." Please see both the GSHA-SC and GSHA websites or the Blog for up to date calendar offerings.

Dear GSHA Members,

Thank you again to everyone who joined us for the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America's Annual Conference and for the wonderful engagement with Dr. Estevan Rael-Gálvez during his keynote, Convergence Bound & Unbound.

We are pleased to share a recording of the keynote, prepared by the Native Bound Unbound team and now available on Vimeo.

Watch Convergence Bound & Unbound https://vimeo.com/1220986233/d1ebccd41b

In his presentation, Estevan shared the work of Native Bound Unbound, an initiative dedicated to recovering the histories of Indigenous people who experienced slavery across the Americas and bringing their lives back into the historical and genealogical record.

The presentation generated a remarkable conversation among those who attended. For genealogists in particular, this work has deeply personal implications. Every documented life recovered has the potential to reconnect descendants with forgotten ancestors, restore obscured family histories, and deepen our understanding of the communities from which we come.

We hope you will watch the presentation and consider sharing it with family members, fellow genealogists, researchers, educators, and others who may be interested in this important work.

Several attendees also asked how they could support Native Bound Unbound. For those who would like to help advance this work, contributions can be made through the Native Bound Unbound donation page, including by check and can be a one-time or monthly donation in any amount:

Native Bound Unbound is also in the midst of its Hidden: Recovering and Reconnecting campaign. Gifts made through the campaign are currently being matched by a generous leadership donor, doubling the impact of each contribution:

Thank you again for being part of this year's conference and for your commitment to recovering and preserving the histories of our families and communities.

Sincerely,

Patsy Vasquez
