It is time for camp!
Multi-County 4-H Camp is for 4-H members for the 2025-2026 4-H year and have completed 3rd- 6th grade. Camp will take place starting on Tuesday, June 30th- Thursday, July 2nd at the Heart of Texas Bible Camp in Brady, TX
Come by the Llano County Extension Office to get a registration packet or call us to get more information at 325-247-5159.
Forms are available at the extension office and due by June 12th!

What an amazing evening celebrating the merger and grand reopening of AW Tacos and The Thirsty Armadillo! We love when the community gathers to celebrate each other!!! Many thanks to the talented James Ridge for sharing your talent and music! And a huge thank you to Mike and Cindy Burleson and their staff for opening their doors and hearts to the community!

The Thirsty Armadillo is open 7 days a week from 7 am to 6 pm

AW Tacos is open Friday through Sunday 8 am to 2 pm!

Everything about AW Tacos has family written all over it, including the name. When asked about the ‘AW’, Cindy laughed. “It’s an inside joke between me and Mike and our grandchildren. After facilitating the merger of The Thirsty Armadillo with AW Taco and moving the coffee shop from Kingsland to Buchanan Dam, Mike shifted focus to reopening AW Taco. And now, they’re back and ready to serve the community amazing food, drinks, and unforgettable tortillas. “We believe in our food, and the love Mike and I and the staff put into every bite of food, every drink we make. We believe in and love this community, and we believe in the support and love of our locals. It’s why everything we do is fresh, homemade, and comes from a place of memory and love. We just want to make sure our locals, tourists, and visitors feel cared for and love the products we provide them. It’s more than just food and drink - it’s nourishment and us sharing something really special from our family to yours.”

From Grandma Dee’s kitchen to our bellies in Buchanan Dam, we are so excited to announce the Grand Re-opening of AW Tacos with a Ribbon Cutting this Thursday, May 28th, starting at 6 pm! Join us for light bites, beverages, and live music by James Ridge. And come hungry! So how did AW Tacos get its start? “I always made tortillas for my kids",” said Cindy, “but when they graduated, I stopped making them for a time. Then, one night I asked Mike if he wanted homemade tortillas with dinner. He was shocked that I could make them.” Once he ate the tortillas, Mike turned to Cindy and said, “We’ve got to open a taco shop!” And that’s exactly what they did.

“Everything’s homemade,” Cindy said, adding, “We wanted to offer our family recipes to the community - the same scratch-made tacos that I grew up on”. Mike and Cindy Burleson, owners of AW Taco and The Thirsty Armadillo, have been locals for 57 years. Cindy graduated from Llano High School and Mike graduated from Burnet. Mike served in the Navy, worked for years in the area, and then opened his own general contracting company, AMC Home Improvements. Cindy works for the U.S. Postal Service, serving the local community through her job for 32 years. Both also donate considerable time as volunteers through various local organizations, including Kingsland Masonic Lodge and Delta Phi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International.

What happens when you open a taco shop in Buchanan Dam in August of 2024 and by November of the same year, you’ve been voted best taco, best breakfast, and best takeout in the Locals Love Us awards? It means you get to add “Best Taco Ever” to your logo and have it stand as truth and testament! But AW Tacos is more than just great tacos!

Making homemade tortillas is generational for Cindy Burleson. It was in her bonus grandmother’s - Grandma Dee’s - kitchen that Cindy’s love for food and cooking started. And it was from Grandma Dee that Cindy learned to make the homemade tortillas that are the foundation of the tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, and desserts that have loyal fans, locals, and tourists coming back for more!

Meet baby girl Storm born May 10th.

She was born a few hours before the hail storm hit on Mother's Day. She struggled for a little bit. We've been keeping an eye on her but with help from friends and neighbors she is thriving and ready to say hello!!!
