Brunswick Area Heritage Museum

The Brunswick Area Heritage Museum has just launched a fundraiser to preserve a special piece of our local history—a parade flag that belonged to the Grand Army of the Republic, Pinhart Post No. 268, Brunswick, MO. This 75" square flag with 44 stars, along with the original charter and a historic photo, tells a story of our veterans and their legacy since 1886.

Preserving this flag will help us share Brunswick’s rich veteran history with future generations. Please consider donating or sharing to help us keep this important piece safe and on display. Every bit of support helps us honor those who served. 🇺🇸

On this day in 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark made camp along the banks of the Grand River near present-day Brunswick, MO—charting a course into the unknown.

More than 200 years later, modern-day explorers can follow in their footsteps in that very same area. Set up camp, cast a line, or paddle the water just as they once did—only now, you’re just one block from Brunswick’s downtown entertainment district.

A Brunswick Native.

Today we remember Trooper William R. Brandt.

Trooper William R. Brandt lost his life on June 12, 1970, when a tornado-like wind blew his patrol car off the road into a concrete bridge abutment on U.S. Highway 36, near Macon, Missouri. Tpr. Brandt had been on storm watch alert in the Macon, Missouri, area when the incident occurred. The same storm caused extensive damage to Troop B headquarters, ripping the roof completely off and blowing down the 325-foot radio tower. Fortunately, nobody was injured at the headquarters.

Trooper William R. Brandt, 23, was the 10th member of the Patrol to lose his life in the line of duty. He was survived by his wife.

We had a great time this morning at "Hands on History" Thanks to all who came. Remember we will have another activity next Tuesday all kids Pre-K -6 are invited.
