Just arrived at the gallery is this lush oil of Cundy’s Harbor at dawn by Kevin Mizner titled “Daybreak”. Before turning to painting full-time, Kevin was a sternman on a lobster boat - the person who baits, sets and hauls the traps as the captain guides the boat to the buoys floating on the surface that mark where the traps are resting on the ocean floor. Kevin brings his memories of that experience to the small but important details of his paintings of working waterfronts that give them an authenticity that others might miss. From weather-worn hulls to how gear is stacked on the docks, Mizner’s landscapes give you a real sense of place.

Stop by the gallery and experience Kevin’s painting in person or visit our website, link in bio, to see all of his artwork we have in inventory.

Newly arrived at the gallery is Jon Marshall’s luminous oil “Early Morning, Corea, Maine”. Corea is a small fishing town on the Schoodic peninsula near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Marshall’s view across its harbor with the golden light of the sun bathing the shore balances the cool shadows of the foreground with the cris blue sky above. As we finally start to come out from under the winter here in Maine, Jon’s painting reinvigorates our senses and gets us thinking of summer adventures ahead! We would love to see you in the gallery if your spring travels bring you to Brunswick but if you aren’t in town yet, you may view all of Jon’s amazing paintings on our website, link in bio.

At 90 years old, Helen Rundell continues to amaze us with her thoughtfully rendered observations of the natural world that surrounds her. We have just received eight new paintings from Helen and invite you to stop by the gallery and see these amazing works in person. The featured artwork above is titled “Generations” and is oil on panel at 10” x 8”. If you are not in the area, all of Helen’s paintings may be viewed on our website, link in bio.

Small paintings are routinely featured in art galleries during the holiday season. The purpose, of course, is to promote purchasing art as a gift. We certainly endorse that sentiment. Personally, I enjoy both giving and receiving an original work of art.

Small work is often under-appreciated. Small paintings offer great flexibility. A well-chosen piece or two can brighten a bookcase or highlight an overlooked corner. Small paintings can be combined, making an impressive grouping to fill a larger space.

At Bayview, we maintain a small work exhibit throughout the year. Visitors to the Gallery are frequently looking for a small piece as a reminder of their trip to Maine. There is always a spot for a small painting. A small mid-winter addition to a collection sparks joy and warmth, helping us get through the bleak, cold days of winter.

I have selected some small paintings from our exhibit to share with you. Be in touch and let me know how I can be helpful. Contact and info links in bio.

My best to you ~ Susan

Our artists are busy through the year and new work arrives at the gallery regularly. Just in are these three acrylic-on-panel paintings by Robert Colburn, all 12” x 12”. Colburn lives in the midcoast and favors an Impressionistic touch that allows for the brushstrokes and textures he builds with the paint to convey his presence in the work as much as it is about his chosen subject. Robert is an alumnus of Bowdoin College and is frequently on its campus enjoying the play of light on its historic buildings and tree-lined walkways. Two of the featured works are of the Bowdoin campus - a November sunset and the Walker Art Museum on a brilliant August day. The third painting is a scene familiar to the many harbors that dot the coast - a fisherman standing confidently at the stern of his skiff, guiding it out of port on whatever business he has to attend to.

As we have mentioned previously, we are open during the winter though our hours may vary. Please call ahead to make sure we are in when you plan to visit. Otherwise catch us by chance! All of Robert’s paintings are on our website along with those by our other artists. A link to the website is in our bio or find us at BayviewGallery.com
