With some clever sleuthing and digital photo enhancing it was discovered that the door to the upstairs deck at the Moyer House had a painted window! And now the design has been re-created and the new panel installed. Can't wait to see what it looks like from the inside once we re-open! In the meantime check it out when you go by. Thanks to Bonnie Napier for the image enhancement, Sara Fielder for the design and painting, Joni Nelson for some of the painting and being the foreman on the project and Roger Geeting for the installation.

With an abundance of caution and concern for our visitors we have decided that we cannot present our wonderful Fundraiser Carriage Me Back to 1930 this year as we had planned. We hope you enjoy seeing our brand new logo created by the talented designer Chris Berner from Joni Nelson's sketch. We had hoped to launch it this year but know that we will have many more years to use it ahead of us.

03/13/2020

Due to the contiuing concern over the spread of the Covid-19 virus the Linn County Commissioners and Parks supervisor have decided to close the Museum from today through March 30th. If further closures are needed we will announce them here. Thank you for taking care of each other.

While cleaning up the newly lit attic at the Moyer House last week our two amazing volunteers, Joni Nelson and Kathy Rogers found the remnants of the painted transom window from the doorway between the Hallway and the Dining room. The paint aound the edges is quite deteriorated but the scene inside was well preserved! Another wonderful volunteer, Roger Geeting removed the blank glass from the transom and Joni reproduced the artwork. It has been re-installed and looks great! Thank you to Joni and Roger for this unexpected treasure.

If you love history, and have a little bit of the Thespian in you Carriage Me Back needs you!. We are just getting started planning our skits for ths year's trip back to 1930 in Brownsville. You needn't be polished and the skits are a lot of fun...we need some for on the street around town and some for in the Moyer House. We have lot's of fun ideas and research on things that were happening in 1930 here at the museum to inspire you. The Roaring 20's are over and the country is in the initial throes of the great depression, it hasn't really hit here yet, but the news is dire. Oregon is beginning a campaign to bring more people here to live, with most of them coming from California. The telephone is changing the way we communicate and interact. There is a movement afoot to create Clear Lake Park.We will have acting coaching, rehearsals and lots of help available. If you are at all interested let us know here or call Joni Nelson at 541-466-3084 and get all your questions answered! So grab a friend or two and see how much fun you can create, and bring your ideas to the next meeting on February 22 at 9:00 am in the Community Room above City Hall.

Due to the tremendous response we had to last Friday evenings lecture with David Lewis, we will be changing the venue for the next two. We were full to overflowing and even had to turn people away. It was so exciting to see such interest in the topic, but so painful to turn people away! We are in the process of locking down another venue so watch here for updates. I do know that the museum will be open from 6 till 6:45 for those who want to see the exhibit before the lecture. The next topic is "Long Story Short, Cascadia Cave Turns 10,000" with Paul Baxter, PhD on Friday, March 6.

THE NEW LOCATION IS THE BROWNSVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH AT 27910 SEVEN MILE LANE

Recent visitors from London and Warsaw were BIG fans of our local favorite movie, "Stand By Me". Danny Tyrrell showed us the classic shot of the 4 boys tattooed on his right arm! That is commitment! He and his friend Ryan Mugford, currently of Warsaw, are traveling through the country visiting their favorite movie sites. They had just come from Astoria, the filming location for the movie "The Goonies"

Hands on History invites you to explore how the pioneers who came to this area faced challenging and rewarding experiences. Discover cooking over a fire using a dutch oven and a tripod, learn about sourdough bread cultures and make some bread, press some cider, scrub your dirty towels on the washboard and finish it all off with some dancing in the street. The Pioneers worked hard and loved to stop and celebrate now and then. Join us August 24th here at the museum to dip your toe into life in the 19th century.

One last memory from Stand By Me Day...the Doo-Wop A-capella singers were a real treat and we wanted to give them a big Thank You! They were 28 singers from 3 different Eugene choirs who practiced 7 songs from the 50's for 5 weeks before the event! Someone even made pins for all the members and fake Lucky Strike packs for the men to roll in their T-shirt sleeves. We hope they will come back next year!

Looking for somethig to unplug your teen from their device for a day? Our Hands on History event on August 24th has a chance to try your hand at panning for gold, blacksmithing, flintknapping, beeswax candle dipping, and learning traditional embalming techniques to help them discover a new skill and give them a short and fun history lesson. (and cool demonstrations for mom and dad too.)

The Central Linn Cobra Cheerleaders brought their cheerful, fun energy to Stand By Me Day this year being solely responsible for the popular Pie Eating Contest as well as hawking raffle tickets and helping kids with 4 square, hopscotch and jump roping. In the end they even busted out a few routines to the sounds of the Uncaged Locals. They were a great addition to a very fun day, thank you girls!

Hands on History will have all the ingredients to travel back in time and sample some delicious foods that you will have learned how to make for yourself. We're showing families how to press cider, bake bread in a cast iron skillet and grind wheat using a stone quern. We're also giving away complimentary slices of watermelon just like pioneers used to eat at picnics. Join us on Saturday, August 24 for a fun filled day of hands on activities.

Did we mention it's free?

Stand By Me Day 2019 was a great success, maybe one of our most international events. Scott Gray came from Scotland, a 40th birthday present from his wife. Jason was here from Australia, a young couple who came through last Fall were back from the Barcelona area, there was a mother, daughter and grandma trio here from England and a youngster from Ireland took part in the pie eating contest. We also had visitors from Japan and Italy, upstate New York, Massachusetts, Indiana and Los Angeles. These are just the ones we know about! We loved meeting all these great people and were sorry to see them go when the day was over. Here are some shots from the day...
