Today, we commemorate the battles and hardships enslaved peoples had to endure to gain the right of freedom on June 19th, 1865.

On Red Hill's Quarter Place trail, there is a cemetery at the bottom of the path, believed to be a sacred burial ground for people enslaved at Red Hill, their ancestors, and their family members after them.

With help from Red Hill's Peighton Young, among others, 60 of 147 graves of buried individuals have been identified and named. Read their names here:https://www.redhill.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Quarter-Place-Burials.pdf

Admission to the grounds will be FREE today in observance of Juneteenth.

Don't forget about our Juneteenth event next Saturday, June 27th, from 11: 00 am to 3:00 pm with the 7056 Charlotte County Branch of the Virginia NAACP. We hope to see you there!
