Semi Aquatic is artist Spencer Reynolds’ retail space located in the heart of downtown Brookings, Oregon. The shop features Spencer’s paintings, prints, cards and clothing, as well as, a carefully curated collection of hand-crafted and locally made gifts and home goods.

Introducing my latest painting, Honeyed Crema.
This piece is based on a photograph by Jim Chamberlain, a longtime friend of the gallery who spends a lot of time in Brookings capturing our beautiful coastline. When he shared this image of Harris Beach, it immediately captivated me, and I asked if I could translate it into paint.
The light and movement felt like a natural fit for my wave color palettes. When I paint water, I often find myself crossing elemental qualities, especially fire and water, allowing warmth and glow to live inside something fluid and cool.
The original painting has already sold. Prints are available on my website and at the gallery.

Three Eyed Eddie is a piece I developed over the course of a year, culminating in April with a five-color, hand-printed serigraph. The print was produced in two color variations, each part of a limited edition of 52.
The artwork was born from a photo I captured on a day when the ocean swelled to nearly 30 feet. It was one of the largest surf days I’d ever witnessed at this spot—the sea in its rawest, most untamed state. That sense of awe and restless energy became the heart of this work, translated from the moment into ink and paper.
In a curious synchronicity, the title Three Eyed Eddie echoes the name of the interstellar comet 3I/Atlas, discovered later on July 1st. When I create, I open myself to act as an antenna for ideas that drift through the ether. Perhaps this title was one of those signals—an unconscious connection between my process and the mysterious comet now passing through our solar system.

Summer gets a little wild at the gallery, and I do my best to keep up. I have a backlog of art and products to share, but I’ll start with this new painting, “Liminal Grove.”

This piece was inspired by a photo I took on one of our local beaches during sunrise. I’ve noticed a running theme in my work (pun intended—I ran on this beach a lot): light streaming from a source beyond a kind of veil. The veils are often trees, with rays of light splitting through them, bending around branches, trunks, leaves, and needles. In turn, the trees themselves seem transformed by the light.

The imagery of trees and light naturally carries a spiritual undertone. However you interpret it, I hope Liminal Grove brings a sense of peace and joy to your day.
