Woodville Experience

Woodville Experience Landmark and Historical place, Begun construction 1775 completed 1785 by General John Neville.

Woodville (Neville House) was built in 1785, and has a long been an important historic landmark. After 200 years of residential occupancy by just three families, the house opened to the public in the 1970s, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1983, and has been lovingly restored to its original condition. Initially the house of John Neville, a Fort Pitt commander and tax collector during

the Whiskey Rebellion, our heritage is deeply rooted in Western Pennsylvania and the city of Pittsburgh. As one of the oldest residences in the city, and an excellent example of the developments in local architecture, and daily life in the late 1700s and early 1800s, Woodville has something for every enthusiast.

The Neville House was built on slavery more than 200 years ago. There's now an effort to elevate the enslaved people's importance. KDKA-TV's Mamie Bah reports.

Happy 266th birthday, Pittsburgh! 🎂

in 1758, General John Forbes and his British army arrived at the Point and took control of the Forks of the Ohio, naming it Pittsburgh after William Pitt, the 1st Earl of Chatham.

In a letter dated “Pittsburgh, 27th November. 1758,” Forbes notified Pitt of the victory over the French, adding "I have used the freedom of giving your name to Fort Du Quesne, as I hope it was in some measure the being actuated by your spirits that now makes us Masters of the place."
