It all started three years ago. A woman walked into colorist Jack Martin's California salon and told him that she had been dyeing her hair from gray to brown with at-home box color every 3-4 weeks for years. But she didn't want to worry about her hair color that often; she's retired, enjoying the gr...

Now they're finished and ready to be glossed over! I did add a few more layers of stuff!! There's just so much stuff... For years people have been donating their old hair stuff to my collection. I had accumulated boxes and bags of rollers, rods, clips, curlers, combs, barrettes, and do dads and that is what inspired these sculptures. Keeping that stuff out of the oceans and land fills and creating something unique and beautiful. These are my "Hairsterical" gals. The perm, the pompadour, the beehive, the flip and the afro! Come see them at La Matadora gallery on Saturday, May 11th and hear about where they are "headed" next!
Saw these lovely blond curls at Shop Rite today. With her permission I got this pic.
The Mansion of America's First Black Female Self-Made Millionaire Gets a New Life
As a think tank for female entrepreneurs of color.
I've been working on these wig sculptures for an upcoming art show in May called "Hairsterical"! They are made with old plastic and metal beauty waste. Perm rods, rollers, barrettes, combs, clips, brushes, ponytail holders, head bands, even banana clips are glued together into these crazy hairdos!! Mark you calendars for the opening on Saturday, May 11th at La Matadora Gallery, next door to the Beauty Bubble. I'll be co-hosting the show with my friend and fellow hairdresser, Jane E. Herrold who is doing a series of classic hairdo paintings and there will be other artists contributing pieces to the all hair related exhibition! Big hair will be encouraged :)
