The members of Body of Work and Esperanza León are pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition B.O.W. XI. This edition brings together the current artistic output of Rosalind Brenner, John Capello, Linda Capello, Michael Cardacino, Daria Deshuk, Ellen Dooley, Cynthia Loewen, Setha Low, Christa Maiwald, and Michael McDowell.

This group of fluctuating members, some of whom have exhibited together from its inception, has welcomed new exhibitors continually. Group association over the years has encouraged them to expand their concepts. Including new artists who bring their own dynamic interpretations of the figure has furthered this expansion of representation, style, and concept.

Despite the figural nature central to this exhibiting group, there are multiple and diverse expressions and mediums to consider: from the socio-politically charged, concept-based digital works by Michael Cardacino and embroidered pieces by Christa Maiwald, to the classically academic, straightforward representation in pastels by Linda Capello or ink drawings by Cynthia Loewen, to lyrical abstraction in paintings and monotypes by Rosalind Brenner.

Falling somewhere between these modes is new work by Ellen Dooley, for instance, wherein she digitizes and recomposes existing life drawings onto digitized versions of well-used vintage maps she has collected over the years, preferring "the era prior to super-highways", she explains.

Three-dimensional artwork features prominently in this exhibit as well. In addition to Cardacino's freestanding digital images, there are stone sculptures by John Capello and ceramic torsos by Setha Low.

Coming on board for this edition is curator, Esperanza León, owner/director of Solar Contemporary Art & Design, East Hampton, who is arranging the placement of the works in the exhibition space at Ashawagh Hall. This is León's third experience at Ashawagh, having guest curated the Springs Invitational in 2011, as well as a solo exhibit by artist/sculptor Dennis Leri in 2013.

Ashawagh Hall is located on Springs Fireplace Road at the intersection with Old Stone Highway in the historic center of Springs in East Hampton. Ashawagh, an American Indian word for "place where two roads come together", has served as a gathering and exhibition space for the community and local artists and has been administered by the Springs Improvement Society since the purchase of this former school building in 1909.
