Come join us for Rebekah Alviani's Introduction to Cyanotype workshop, in the Arts Council Gallery on Saturday, May 30, 2026, 10am–3pm. In this workshop, you will dive into Cyanotype, a historical photographic process that uses 'sun-printing' to create imprints of objects on a distinctive Prussian blue background. You will explore using chemistry, botanicals, found objects, sunlight, and water in making camera-less imagery. This beginner-friendly session covers paper coating, exposure, and washing, allowing participants to leave with original prints.

The registration fee for this workshop is $135, and registration is available online at tcarts.org/adult-workshops or by calling the Arts Council at (828) 884-2787. Bring some desired objects or your favorite flowers, and let's print!

Rebekah Alviani is an award-winning, internationally published, and exhibited lens-based artist whose work explores the relationship between images, objects, and memory, offering diverse perspectives of the subjects she documents. Her work has been seen in solo exhibitions throughout the United States and has recently been published in Photo Trouvée Magazine and The Hand Magazine.

Alviani holds an AST in Photography, a BFA in Graphic Design, and an MFA in Digital Arts. She served in the Peace Corps in Ghana as an art teacher in a school for the Deaf. Her service fostered a love of teaching, and she is now an artist-educator at Western Carolina University, teaching photography while continuing her visual research and art-making practice.

The Arts Council is issuing a call to artists for our next open exhibition, Art, Architecture & Design. The elements and principles of design are the foundation for all forms of art and architecture. For this exhibition, we welcome artists to submit both works of art that shape our environment (e.g., buildings, interiors, fashion, etc.) and works of art that are nonfunctional and design-driven.

Artists of all mediums are invited to submit works that fit the theme of this exhibit. All submissions should demonstrate the artist’s hand and must not be generated by artificial intelligence.

Jennifer Iden is an educator and AI implementation coordinator at Brevard Academy, where she supports students and staff in using emerging technologies thoughtfully and responsibly. On Wednesday, May 13, from 4-5:30pm, she will lead an interactive information session at the Arts Council on AI & the Arts – Creativity, Copyright, and the Future.

This learning opportunity is for artists of all backgrounds and will examine how artificial intelligence is transforming the creative landscape and what it means for artists, educators, and the broader arts community. We will explore how AI tools generate images, music, and writing, and consider the opportunities these tools offer, alongside emerging questions and concerns. This session will also touch on current court cases involving AI and copyright, discussing how issues like ownership, consent, and compensation are being discussed and shaped.

This event invites open dialogue, reflection, and practical understanding, so participants can leave with a clearer sense of how AI is influencing creative work, along with thoughtful questions to consider as this space continues to evolve.
