The Arts Council is pleased to announce its upcoming festive winter exhibition, The Great Holiday Scrapbook: Memories, Magic, and Midwinter, an open exhibition of fine art and craft. The exhibit will open on Friday, November 6, and close on Thursday, December 19.

We are seeking lighthearted, joyful, and nostalgic artwork that captures the essence of the Holiday and Winter seasons. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme widely: from the festive feasts and family chaos of Thanksgiving, to the twinkling lights, decorations, and packages of Christmas and Hanukkah, and the snowy landscapes and folklore of Winter Solstice and Midwinter. Let your imagination be your guide!

This exhibit is open to all artists, regardless of age, level of experience, and residency, and to all mediums (other than sound). The drop-off dates for registration forms and artwork are Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3, from 11am – 4pm.

We hope this exhibition will become a community scrapbook—a collection of memories, comfort, and festive fun! Let’s fill the gallery with the joy and nostalgia of the season. You can download a registration form or register online at tcarts.org/exhibitions. For more information, call 828-884-2787 or email [email protected]

Although the Arts Council will be closed during October’s Gallery Walk, you’ll find our Board and staff members enjoying the evening at other participating galleries. However, we will be back in November with another exciting exhibition. Here is a selection of the inspiring events happening across downtown at this month's Gallery Walk:

Rebecca Kahrs Willis is the featured artist at The Lucy Clark Gallery and Studio (51 West Main Street). Enjoy light refreshments, along with the music of Rick Kuncicky on guitar, as you explore the art.

At Through the Trees (120 West Main Street), store owner and local artist Yvette Brooks will be creating handmade earrings and keychains through 6.30 pm that will be available for sale to visitors.

Time in a Bottle is the theme for a new autumnal exhibit at Number 7 Arts (2 West Main Street), inspired by the Jim Croce song of the same name and the transition from summer to fall.

Local Color (36 South Broad Street) welcomes visitors to check out their economically priced, unique local art, jewelry and original upcycled clothing. Free hugs always available from Paul!

The Hollingsworth Gallery/Main Street Ltd (147 East Main Street) features the work of local fiber artist Janice Hiner and the work of sister artists Cindy Rehm and Trish Rugaber and will have w**e and refreshments for visitors from 5-7pm.

At Blue Moon Gallery and Frame (24 East Main Street), Gallery Walk visitors can enjoy the music of Shaun Nicklin while exploring the gallery and enjoying light hors-d’oeuvres.

Brevard Clay (84 East Main Street) will be open late and is offering visitors a relaxed gallery evening with some light refreshments. You are invited to browse, visit, linger, and enjoy handmade work by the shop's local artists.

Brevard First Friday Gallery Walks run through December each year. Remaining dates for the 2026 Gallery Walk season are November 6 and December 4. Make plans to meet your friends each month to explore more of our creative community’s offerings.

Transylvania Arts Council is excited to be continuing our Classic Cinema Appreciation series with Mark Hall, who is leading an exploration of three very different films by Alfred Hitchcock. Each of the classes in this series meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00 to 8:30 PM.

On Wednesday, October 14, we will continue with Hitchcock's 1955 film The Trouble with Harry. These evenings are structured as cinema appreciation classes, not film screenings or movie nights. Mark will use selected scenes as the basis for teaching, analysis, and discussion, examining Hitchcock’s visual storytelling, camera placement, editing, use of suspense, character psychology, and recurring themes. Participants are encouraged to watch the complete film independently before or after the class.

No prior knowledge of Hitchcock or film studies is required - only curiosity and an interest in how films create meaning through images, sound, performance, and editing! Admission is free, though a $10 donation to the Arts Council is respectfully suggested. To reserve a seat, please contact the Arts Council at 828-884-2787 or [email protected].
