Historic Bremen, Inc. The History Center is open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM with free admission (donations welcome!). Our mission is to:

We had over 200 visitors to the Dietrich-Bowen House tour this past Sunday. The event was organized by the Marshall County Historical Society and tours were conducted by them and volunteers from Historic Bremen. Current owners of the home are Michael and Andreea Cope. It was a wonderful afternoon that allowed local residents to share the Copes' renovation journey as well as their own memories from over the years. Former residents, the Stickleys, the Kauffmans, and Rob Bowen attended and shared their memories. Thanks to everyone who made the event a success!

Dr. Otis Bowen was a well-known Bremen physician who served as the 44th governor of Indiana from 1973 to 1981 and as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Cabinet of President Ronald Reagan from 1985 to 1989. We are looking forward to touring the house he lived in from the 1950s to 1980s! Join us August 16 in Bremen to step into this historic mansion.

Step inside the Dietrich-Bowen House in Bremen on Sunday, August 16!

Built in 1900 by prominent businessman Peter Dietrich, this house was once home to locally famous Governor Otis “Doc” Bowen.

The tour highlights original details, family stories and the home’s place in our community’s past.

Please note, the tour includes stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.

Tickets are $20 each and available in-person, online, and over the phone. Your purchase supports the Marshall County Historical Society’s work to preserve local history and offer educational programs for all ages. Historic Bremen volunteers will be present to support. A very nice booklet on the house will be provided.

The house, located at 304 N Center Street, was designed by Nappanee architect Henry Frazier to replace an earlier house that straddled two lots. It was home to Peter and his daughter, then to the Thomas family (who had the Bremen tile mill), the Bowens, and others. It’s now owned and restored by Michael and Andreea Cope.
