Our September 2 Program Meeting, at 7:00 at the society will be presented by a “Hexologist”.

Boyertown’s own, Hunter M. Yoder is the operator of The Hex Factory in town. He approaches Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs (also called barn stars or hexafoos) with a deep emphasis on their symbolic, magical, and spiritual dimensions. Rooted in his Berks County ancestry and Pennsylvania German (Deitsch) heritage, Yoder views hex signs not merely as decorative folk art but as “Painted Prayers” (a term he draws from figures like Lee Gandee), charged with intent, functioning as visual prayers, wish symbols, magic marks, or “Heiden Hexology”—a revivalist practice tied to pre-Christian Germanic traditions.

Please join us and learn about this amazing PA Dutch tradition. Hunter will be bringing along many of his beautiful hex signs and will be able to explain the meaning of them. He will have some of his books available for purchase at the meeting.

Meeting is free to members and $5 for non-members.

🛞 A Trade Passed Down Through Seven Generations

Some of the most fascinating pieces of history tell the story of a family, a craft, and a community—and this wheelwright display is a wonderful example.

The display, featuring the work and history of Rodney Kulp, represents the Kulp/Kolb Wheelwright Shop, which operated in New Hanover Township at Church and Little Roads from 1738–1931.

For nearly 200 years, this family business carried on the skilled trade of wheelmaking, spanning an incredible seven generations of wheelwrights. 🔨🛞

Take a closer look at this remarkable display and imagine the skill, craftsmanship, and dedication that went into creating the wheels and wooden components that helped keep a community moving.

📍 Come see this piece of local history at the Boyertown Area Historical Society Museum!

Museum Hours: Most Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
