While scanning in the digitization lab, we came across this image of Joe Ben Wheat in the field at the Olsen-Chubbuck dig site. Never seen without his iconic pipe, Wheat stands next to a graduate student, Bob Wainwright, as he excavates the "River of Bones." ⛏️ Over 650 digitized images and documents from this archaeological excavation have been recently published for access online! For more, check out the Olsen-Chubbuck collection at: https://bit.ly/4bfwoa6 🐮 This work was made possible by funding from NHPRC!

Digitization magic continues over here in the Anthropology archives! Most recently, we are excited to provide online access to Joe Ben Wheat's field notebooks from the Olsen-Chubbuck bison kill site excavation. This discovery provided significant insight into the hunting methods of prehistoric people. Funding from NHPRC makes access to these resources possible! This and other Olsen-Chubbuck materials can be found at: https://bit.ly/43RyuKz
