🐝 Christina Mastrangelo is a visual artist who enjoys painting the natural world in front of her. This includes women (her main subjects), but also florals and still-lifes. However, recently, tiny insects have been incorporated into her work, like “Delicate Ritual II”. Through the incorporation of a bee and a flower, the viewer witnesses an exchange in nature between the two beings. It is a wondrous and childlike point of view of the world, referencing her role as a mother to a toddler. Fun fact: bees typically symbolize fertility, community, and diligence; they were once status and power symbols for the Barberini family of Italy as well.

🌳 Coastal, woody, and rural New England– these landscapes are typically what Harley Bartlett depicts in his paintings. He uses objects, man-made or natural, as guiding points for viewers in his art. In “High Summer,” Bartlett uses a natural path, which seems to be shaped by car or foot traffic. This path leads the viewers into the center of the piece, as well as the horizon line. Viewers can see a winding marsh as well as a town in the nearby distance, creating a sense of depth.

⛵️ Frederick “Fritz” Kubitz is a watercolorist and oil painter with a personal style that is particularly bold and vigorous. Many of his paintings portray the traditional scenes and subjects of New England, and he is very keen on details. The sails are kept up by a very precise line that becomes geometric as the viewer’s eyes move upward from the platform. Kubitz also pays attention to great detail with each wave and tide by the usage of color, which is also prevalent in the tiny lighthouse in the distance. This leads back to his role as a trained architect, which is evident in his depiction of the Lurline.

🍇 Alberta Geyer, under the tutelage of Gregg Kreutz, was introduced to the chiaroscuro– a technique used by the old masters such as Caravaggio by playing with light and shadow to create theatrical effects. “Melon, Grapes, and Nuts” is a still-life oil painting that embodies this technique by using a darker background with light that is directed upon the fruit and objects. The light is especially emphasized on the rounding of the grapes and on the glass, creating a sense of depth while still carrying on the tradition of the chiaroscuro technique in her still lifes.

🌻 Melody Phaneuf pays homage to the late, great Dutch Impressionist Vincent Van Gogh in her latest piece, “For Vincent”. Familiar Dutch motifs are arranged in this still life: a straw hat rests on the back of a chair, wooden clogs sit below, and sunflowers bloom from a vase beside it. The room feels familiar, echoing Van Gogh’s Chair hanging just to the left of the arrangement. Phaneuf expresses her creative liberty as well, changing the iconic yellow chair to a soft blue to match the space it inhabits. Though this Guild member sits in a different chair than the impressionists before her, there is always an invisible string between a painter and Vincent.

💐 An immersive garden scape hangs in this year's Members Juried Exhibition. These heavy blooms dance under the weight of passing showers, casting a lilac hue over the scene. The deepest violet shadows are complemented by the lime green vegetation and sparse yellow flowers peaking through the tangles. In the upper left corner, there is a white structure that hints we are in someone's coastal New England backyard. Remarkably, artist Pamela Pindell's magical garden scape maintains balance and organized chaos while also exhibiting every color of the rainbow.

🏺 Daniel Whiteknact's submission for the 2026 Members Juried Exhibition is a moody, vertical still life titled "The Copper Jug". The thick materiality of the paint and the Earthy color palette reflect the organic elements that make up the vessels. Though the composition exhibits dark pigments with a dense shadow casting a diagonal through it, this piece does not feel sorrowful. In fact, there is almost a hopeful feeling in the piece as the center copper jug faces the light, almost inviting it in.
