🇺🇸 Happy Translator’s Day! — September 30
Today we celebrate the professionals who do much more than translate words — they connect people, bridge cultures, and make communication possible across borders.
September 30 is celebrated as International Translation Day in honor of Saint Jerome, the patron saint of translators.
But who was Saint Jerome?
Saint Jerome (c. 347–420 AD) was a scholar, theologian, and linguist who dedicated much of his life to studying and translating biblical texts. He is best known for his work on the Latin Vulgate, a landmark translation of the Bible into Latin that became one of the most influential biblical translations in history.
What makes his story especially meaningful to translators is his commitment to studying the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts rather than simply translating through another language. His work represents values that remain essential to professional translation today: accuracy, research, linguistic knowledge, cultural understanding, and fidelity to the original meaning.
More than 1,600 years later, translators continue that same mission — helping ideas travel from one language to another and bringing people closer together.
To all translators around the world: THANK YOU.
