For this ShowUp is delighted to feature the incredible work of Arghavan Khosravi.

Hailing from Iran and currently based in Stamford, Connecticut, Khosravi is known for her intricate constructions and multi-paneled paintings works that push the boundaries of painting into the realm of installation.

Drawing on the aesthetics of ancient Persian miniature painting—an art form traditionally used to illustrate folkloric texts—Khosravi interrogates the visual narratives that have historically portrayed women in subservient or secondary roles. Her work takes a critical look at how these long-standing iconographies continue to influence Iranian gender politics today.

One of the most striking characteristics of Khosravi’s work is its multi-dimensionality. Constructed from a complex scaffolding of cut and painted wooden panel; Her use of symbolic visual motifs—such as black plumes, rockets, and cages—references corrupted economic and political systems, while recurring depictions of shackled female bodies or sewn mouths speak to the systemic silencing and oppression of women.

Maryam Safajoo's narrative paintings are meticulous recreations of her interviews with victims of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the 1979 revolution. They powerfully illustrate the systemic persecution and repression of fellow members of the Baha'i faith.

We are delighted to highlight Massachusetts-based artist, Daisy Patton, for this week's

Daisy Patton is a multi-disciplinary artist born in Los Angeles, CA, to a white mother from the American South and an Iranian father she never met. Growing up between California and Oklahoma, Patton's work explores themes of memory, family dynamics, and cultural identity.

Her series "Forgetting Is So Long" features life-sized portraits created from scanned and printed family photographs. Patton paints over these images with vibrant blocks of color and ornate patterns, momentarily reviving the subjects and inviting viewers to engage in a dialogue. While photographs capture a completed story, Patton's painted interventions encourage reflection and reinterpretation.

Patton's work has been featured in publications like Hyperallergic, The Jealous Curator, and The Denver Post. Patton’s book, Broken Time Machines: Daisy Patton, was published by Minerva Projects Press in 2021. She has completed residencies at Anderson Ranch, MASS MoCA, and RedLine Denver, and received awards including a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant and a Barbara Deming Memorial Fund grant. Patton holds an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University, and a BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Oklahoma.

This week's highlights the work of Iwalani Kaluhiokalani!

Iwalani Kaluhiokalani is a painter and interdisciplinary artist working between Boston, USA, and Marseille, France. Her practice explores the body as both subject and medium, spanning large-scale paintings, paper cut-outs, printmaking, video projection, and immersive installations. Rooted in movement and her diasporic experience, her work engages with Polynesian artifacts, sensory ethnography, ocean restoration, and synesthesia.

Through a choreographic visual language, she reshapes nature and figuration into co-collaborative experiences, critically examining geological fantasy, European colonization in Oceania, and utopian borderless societies. Using tactile materiality, repurposed objects, and rhythmic compositions, she creates liminal spaces where sight and touch converge—bridging past and present while imagining transformative futures.
