ONE FINE DAY:
Painted Stories From South Africa by Lynne Seitzer
OPEN HOUSE : FIRST FRIDAY ART TOURS. 5-7 pm FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6. Art Lovers welcomed!
Thursday, August 29 through September 30, 2024 Joy To The Wind Gallery is presenting Lynne Seitzer’s painted stories from South Africa...called “One Fine Day.”
Some years back, Lynne and her husband John traveled to the Capetown area to research book illustration project for the then upcoming book “Come Walk With Me in the Fynbos” by Susan Schadler. When they weren’t hiking and documenting the Fynbos floral kingdom, they explored the city and its surrounds. Lynne was captivated by the vibrant people and rich colors. Over this past year she began painting a series of scenes from life there. To date, she has completed eight of these painted stories, which comprise “One Fine Day” stories from South Africa. Here is one of the story premises:
"Pie Man: One fine day a Pie Man glides through the streets on a bicycle. No ordinary bicycle, it’s fully equipped with a warming oven, propane and nine piping hot pies. Such a treat to meet the Pie Man. "
One Fine Day; Painted Stories from Africa depict human ingenuity, artistry and day to day life in a very small part of a very large country on the southern tip of a very, very huge continent....many miles from home. Please stop by Joy To The Wind to “read “ all the stories for yourself. 34 Atlantic Ave., Boothbay Harbor, ME, 207-633-7025. www.joytothewind.com

Musings & Abstractions at Joy To The Wind Gallery

Summer is in full swing at Joy to The Wind Gallery. John’s busy doing custom picture framing for our customers and for our art . Mornings and evenings find him tending the gardens, picking raspberries and lettuce greens which he loves to share with our neighbors. Sometimes he will squeeze in a little time for painting in the studio.
Lynne begins each day by enjoying summers’ early mornings. A long walk with a friend is followed by selecting fresh blooms from the flower garden and making bouquets for the house and gallery. Then, every day, at 10 am she opens the shop. Tending the gallery is a joy. Greeting new faces- excited to view our art and to explore the Harbor. Often welcoming returning friends and catching up on their lives. Because Boothbay Harbor’s beauty draws people from all over the nation and even farther reaches of the world, every day is new. And, as anyone who summers here can attest, summertime moves very very fast. We are already on the cusp of August!
The gallery is filling with more new paintings, framed and ready for display. Currently John has put the final touches on some of his ongoing “Glyph” series. These Zen like abstracts feature intriguing, bold characters (graphic symbols) placed over vivid fields of color. In other directions, new abstract pieces playfully push and pull multiple colors and patterns. Some are heavily layered, creating rich textures. Some are light and airy, the colors swept spontaneously over the canvas. It is exciting to see them up on the walls!
Friday, August 2 Joy To The Wind Gallery will celebrate the fleeting summer with Musings & Abstractions, and a Wine and Chocolate Reception from 5-7 pm. Please stop by and check out their work. This celebration coincides with the First Friday Art Tour which is happening at several wonderful galleries around the harbor. So make an evening of it! Look for the full First Friday line up in the Boothbay Register. This exhibit will be on view for the month of August.
Joy To The Wind Gallery is located at 34 Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor. (Just over the historic footbridge if you are on walking and around the inner harbor by car) Open 10-5 everyday and extended hours for the First Friday Art Tour. SKY. a new body of work by Lynne Seitzer Opens Friday July 5!

“Even as a child, I felt an emotional connection to the beauty around me. However, to my mind, the sky is one of the most evocative visuals, imaginable. The sky is moody and ever-changing.
It wraps us -misty and soft. It soothes us in restful darkness. It startles us with lightening and thunder and powerful storms. And it holds us rapt, when star filled and cloudless. If I had a thousand years to paint every amazing sky it would not begin to scratch the surface.” Lynne Seitzer.
Dominating ocean, land and trees, the sky is the story in Lynne Seltzer’s new series of oil paintings.

This exhibit will be on view at Joy To The Wind Gallery through July. There will be an opening reception on Friday, July 5 from 5-7 pm which coincides with the First Friday Art Tours. Joy To The Wind is located on the East Side, just over the historic footbridge at 34 Atlantic Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. Open daily from 10-5. Transformations. A New Body of Work by John M.T. Seitzer

A look at before and remaking the now. Landscapes provide a background and a foundation for the refashioned paintngs that make up the "Transformations" series." Each image starts with a recognizable scene, either local and or from away.

A pattern of dots and dashes of color overlays the underpainting. Sometimes the colors relate to the base composition. Other times dissimilar hues are chosen to create a completely new color palette. Many transformed paintings allow the viewer to simultaneously see the landscape beneath together with the abstract surface pattern. Two different artistic depictions in one work of art.

Several modifications of the original images resulted in non-representational (or non objective) images, where the original image was completely obliterated with colorful dots and dashes.

John M.T. Seitzer's "Transformations" will be on view at Joy To The Wind Gallery now through July 31, 2023 and will be featured at an artist reception on July 7th. All are invited to come and see the final metamorphosis of the many transformations.

Joy To The Wind Gallery, 34 Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor Maine. 207-633-7025. joytothewind.com. Open daily 10-5 pm.
