Question for the serious battlefield trekker: Which animal scares you more? A Pennsylvania beaver 🦫 at Gettysburg, or a Louisiana alligator 🐊 at Port Hudson?

We are humbled by all of the kind words you have sent our way and all of the enthusiasm you have expressed to us over these last few weeks regarding our battlefield improvements, programming and upcoming events!

Here are a few things to keep in mind for the future…

1.) Due to overwhelming interest we will be looking for opportunities to do our “Sunset Stroll” on the Battlefield at least one more time this fall. We don’t have a date yet, but it will be on a weeknight not a weekend. Also, these are not intense history programs, but instead just a chance to get out and see the new things at the battlefield and enjoy the outdoor space. Anyone can attend!

2.) Our Monthly Battlefield Programming will start back up again in January. We have some great new volunteer guides! Come out and support them!

3.) April 10, 2027 is the 2nd Annual Civil War in Mississippi Symposium ! The BCF is co-hosting the event with MDAH. This is way “off-site” at the Old State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi. There are going to be some phenomenal speakers and you won’t want to miss this event. If you are coming to the region for the 165th Anniversary of Shiloh we ask you to consider extending your trip and heading to the Old State Capitol afterwards! Oh, and be sure to stop off at Brice’s Crossroads in between.

4.) June 12, 2027 will be the can’t-miss “Brice’s Crossroads: Revisted - Bus Tour” during the day followed by our “2027 Membership Banquet” that evening in Tupelo! More details released soon!

Wow! We have the best members and friends. Nearly 50 folks showed up today for the Fall Battlefield Seminar!

You came out even with the threat of tropical storms and strong winds. You came out in the constant rainfall this morning. When we had to move inside you showed up and made our day. Thank you!

For those who could not attend we DID have a videographer film the event and we will get that out as fast as we can.

Reminder: We will be back out on the battlefield starting in January for regular programming. Don’t forget to put the 2nd Annual Civil War in Mississippi Symposium this spring on your calendars as well as the “Brice’s Crossroads: Revisited” Bus tour and Membership Banquet June 12, 2027 (more details coming soon!).

Final Reminders for the 2026 Brice’s Crossroads Battlefield Seminar!

-The Seminar is on!

-If there is any rain at all at 9am tomorrow (October 10) we will move inside the church at the Crossroads (across from the NPS site)

-bring a camp/folding chair just in case the weather holds and programs are outside as intended and you have trouble standing for long periods of time

-If you are nearby please join us at 530pm tonight (Friday Oct 9) for an informal battlefield stroll/walk at dusk

-Bring a good attitude and enjoy being around fellow Civil War history enthusiasts from around the region and country!

The 2026 Brice’s Crossroads Battlefield Seminar is still on as scheduled for Saturday October 10!

If we need to move any programs indoors the Church on the battlefield has graciously allowed us to use their space. We are hopeful that the heaviest rainfall starts later in the day or misses us. We hope everyone in the Hurricane’s path stays safe!

We know many folks traveled far to get here. If you are a local resident or are in town Friday October 9, we will be hosting an informal “Sunset Stroll” at the battlefield from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Please come join us! The ground covered is mostly grass path and will not be suitable for everyone.

We will gather near the newly placed cannon at the parking area on Hwy 370 just about 0.2 of a mile East of the NPS Site.
