Get ready for a civic journey through downtown Boise with A Slice of History: Civic Bites & Historic Sites on June 27 at 1 PM!

Explore three historic and cultural sites while learning about civic engagement, local history, and the power of community storytelling. Each stop includes hands-on activities and challenges, and the journey ends with a pizza party at Payette Brewing.

This program is part of Civic Season, a national initiative between Juneteenth and July 4th that invites people, especially young people, to explore history, reflect on civic identity, and take action in their communities.

🍕 Take a civic journey through downtown Boise with A Slice of History: Civic Bites & Historic Sites on June 27 at 1PM!

Visit three historic and cultural sites, complete an activity at each stop, and earn a free pizza party at Payette Brewing at the end of your journey.

📍 Stop 1: Idaho State Museum
Learn about community leaders from Idaho’s past who embodied the Civic Superpowers and discover how their actions helped shape our communities.

📍 Stop 2: Wassmuth Center (featuring Boise Public Library)
Learn about how public libraries serve as civic forums, create buttons for the civic causes you care about most, and explore library resources like the Excite Trike (or even renew/get your library card!). And explore civics through four interactive and reflective stations created by the Wassmuth Center’s Torchbearer Fellows.

📍 Stop 3: Erma Hayman House (featuring James Castle House)
Through hands-on artmaking and historical exploration, discover how two remarkable Idahoans, James Castle and Erma Hayman, used observation, creativity, resilience, and advocacy to respond to environmental and community change.

Tropico FM will be DJing throughout the event, and drinks and light refreshments will be available for purchase.

This event is part of Civic Season, a national initiative celebrated between Juneteenth and July 4 that inspires young people to get excited about civic engagement and community involvement.

Looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday afternoon? Grab a friend and explore three downtown Boise sites! 🏛️🍕

Join us on June 27 at 1PM for A Slice of History: Civic Bites & Historic Sites, an interactive Civic Season experience exploring Boise’s history, culture, and community.

Start at the Idaho State Museum, and then walk to the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights (featuring the Boise Public Library) and the Erma Hayman House (featuring the James Castle House), while completing hands-on activities centered on history and civic engagement.

Finish your journey with a well-earned pizza celebration at Payette Brewing! 🍕

Civic Season connects our newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, with our oldest, Independence Day, creating an opportunity to reflect, learn, and explore how the past shapes the present.
