Our Museum Education team always loves the opportunity to get out into the community! We had so much fun meeting everyone who stopped by our table at Bug Day at the Idaho Botanical Garden.

Don’t miss Midday Musings with Aly McKnight on Thursday, November 5, from 12–1 PM!

This new lunchtime learning series features local experts who explore topics related to Idaho’s history, heritage, and culture.

Aly McKnight is an enrolled member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, self-taught watercolor artist, and children’s book illustrator. Discover her artistic process, the inspiration behind her work, and the Native stories woven into her artwork.

Did you know that historic textiles are amongst the most fragile artifacts in museums? Things like light, consistent strain, and dust can cause permanent damage on already fragile fibers. Faded dye, tears, and brittle threads are just the beginning of potential harm to textiles on display in museums.

This is why it’s ideal to switch out textiles every 6 months to let them “rest.” Following this philosophy, the Collections and Exhibitions team at the Idaho State Museum just switched out the 43-star flag on display in United We Celebrate for another similar flag!

🕵️‍♀️ A mystery is unfolding at the Idaho State Museum… and we need your help to solve it!

Join us for Homeschool Day on Wednesday, October 21, and become a history detective! 🔎 Search for clues, investigate artifacts, solve puzzles, and piece together the evidence to uncover a mystery hidden inside the Museum.

Homeschool students and their families are invited to explore Idaho’s stories through hands-on activities, historic mysteries, and an exciting classroom investigation!

To ensure an enjoyable experience for all participants, we are implementing timed entry ticketing. Please select an arrival time between 10:00am – 3:00pm. Everyone will have until 3:00 PM to participate in the classroom activity.

Admission is $4 per student (Youth 2 and up) and adults/teachers in a 1:1 ratio are $5, any additional adults must pay regular admission. For ISHS Members, admission is $2 per student (Youth 2 and up) and all adults are $2.50. Preregistration is required; Walkups will not be accommodated. Payment is due at the time of reservation and is non-refundable.

Each program features local experts who offer deeper insight into a specific topic related to Idaho’s history, heritage, and culture. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch and enjoy a lunchtime learning experience at the Museum.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Idaho’s horse culture and heritage at our Saddle Up, Idaho! Community Day this past Saturday! 🐴🤠
