Samantha Holley dropped by the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd, with many family members. They were hanging out together before the Renewal of Vows event today. Many of Samantha's large family missed her wedding last year but were able to join in this year in Boise. Such a fun group. We were delighted they wanted to be with the geology nuts on Friday. Here they are.

The Baker Heritage Museum and Sumpter Dredge field trip is over and the 19 participants are home after a full day. It was an exceptional tour led by retired Geology Professor Mark Ferns. Mark lives in Baker City and is very involved with the Heritage Museum. His wealth of information is vast with particular involvement in the historic gold in Oregon.

The group took a side trip to the nearby Sumpter Dredge which was fascinating. It was easy to visualize miners operating the Dredge.

If you see that Mark Ferns is leading a field trip next year, register right away.

Gold Panning for All Ages
1-3:30 PM
Join us in panning for gold! The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd (IMMG), will set up this event in the courtyard of the Women's Prison at the Old Pen in east Boise. This Panning experience is provided by the Treasure Valley Gold Prospectors. Nonmembers of the IMMG $10 adults, $5 kids.
FREE for IMMG members and their kids. Everyone must register even if you do not pan for gold. Every registered person takes home a speck of gold! Two, 30-minute Hillside geology hikes are scheduled, and you'll want to go inside this beautiful museum where you'll find fascinating displays and an awesome Gift Shop. Every child gets a free mineral inside the Museum.

Shoofly Oolites-Landscape of Mars
Join Steven Sawyer for a popular field trip to the Shoofly Oolites, one of the largest outcrops of Oolites in North America—located 70 miles from Boise near Grand View.

We will meet near the McDonald's, 6574 S Federal Way (Albertsons Shopping Center) at 9:45am for a 10am departure. Home early afternoon.

This trip does NOT start from the IMMG. Paved roads the entire way. Sponsored by Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd. Nonmembers of the museum $20 plus Eventbrite fee, IMMG Members and Children free. Pre-registration is required.

The Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd, Boise, led a hike to Table Rock on Sunday, celebrating the 4 interpretive signs placed partway up the trail in May. Participants learned a bit about the geology of the hillside as well as the history behind the signs.

If you are unable to hike Table Rock but would like to see the interpretive signs, please drop by the Museum on Friday or Saturday noon-5 or Sunday 12:30-3:30. The exact replicas are on the wall in the lecture room.

The Museum ends its regular fall schedule on October 31. November is Saturdays only from 1-4 with last day of the season on November 21, noon-4. November 21 is Santa's Rock Shop and everything in the Gift Shop is 20% off!
