October has made its way to the Garden! 🍂
With changing foliage, crisp mornings, and cooler days, the landscape is settling into the fall season. But there’s still plenty in bloom to discover.
Here are four plants to look for this October:
• Autumn Crocus (Colchicum autumnale)
Found in multiple garden spaces, these delicate blooms emerge in fall, adding unexpected color as the growing season winds down.
• Hummingbird Trumpet Mint (Monardella macrantha ‘Marian Sampson’)
Growing in the Western Waterwise Garden, this vibrant perennial produces bright red tubular flowers and thrives in dry, sunny conditions.
• Heath Aster (Symphyotrichum ericoides ‘Snow Flurry’)
Look for this late-season bloomer in the Labyrinth Garden, where its small white flowers brighten the landscape into autumn.
• Goldenrod (Solidago ‘Wichita Mountains’)
Found in the Dry Garden, goldenrod brings bright yellow blooms to the fall landscape and provides an important late-season source of nectar for pollinators.
