The Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion Museum are a National Historic Site near State College PA and Penn State University telling the story of America as seen through eight generations of the Boal family and their ancestors including Columbus, Napoleon and Richard Henry Lee (signer of the Declaration of Independence). The site includes the centuries-old Columbus Chapel, inherited and imported to Boalsburg from Spain in 1909 and containing the Admiral's Desk of Christopher Columbus, fine European paintings and statues and two pieces of the True Cross of Jesus.

Today’s the day! Dr Matthew Restall of Penn State University will be in the Boal Mansion ballroom at 7PM for his book talk and signing, Lives of Christopher Columbus. Books will be available for sale tonight!

All are welcome. No RSVP necessary. $15 donation at the door supports the Boal Mansion Museum.

As is customary for each Columbus Day, our local priests and Knights Of columbus chapters join together to celebrate the Catholic heritage of the Boal family legacy, especially the renowned Columbus Chapel and the holy artifacts therein.
A special congratulations this year is extended to our friends Lionel and Nancy Bassett, longtime supporters of the museum, who celebrated sixty years of marriage on Monday as well.

On Friday, join us once again as we honor our history and reignite a curiosity about the controversial Christopher Columbus at The Nine Lives of Christopher Columbus: Book Talk & Signing with the Author, Dr. Matthew Restall

7Pm on Friday, Oct 16. Boal Mansion Ballroom. All are welcome!

The Boalsburg Renaissance Faire is here! 11-5, $5 per person.
Due to safety concerns, we do not have axe throwing, nor horse and carriage rides today. However, live music is in the barn theatre! Food and drink for all!

The lower level of the barn has a great indoor spot to stay dry and relax in between your stops today! Come out and enjoy the Renaissance in happy Valley!

The Boalsburg Renaissance Faire goes on tomorrow 11-5,☔️ or ☀️. We are prepared for all contingencies! As a matter of fact, all the live music performances will still go on as planned, they will just be moved to the indoor theater of the Boal Barn Playhouse!

Once you explore the more than 30 vendors on site, take a ride on the horse and carriages, enjoy a tour of the chapel, and grab a bite to eat from one of our food trucks and a sip of something delicious from one of the breweries or mead-maker, relax for a bit in the playhouse and enjoy some delightful Renaissance music!

Thank you to Kathy Dolensky, a very kind hearted visitor to the Columbus Chapel for the rosary and chapel tour event months ago, who saw a great need to revitalize the Mother Mary statue in the grotto in front of the Columbus Chapel. Kathy took several months to carefully restore this statue to her former splendor.

We are so appreciative of her time and talent, and invite you to attend the Columbus Day Mass @ The Columbus Chapel this coming Monday, October 12. Email us at [email protected], or call 724-859-5324 to make your reservation for the 10 AM or 2 PM mass!

The 2026 Centre County United Way Day of Caring was SUPERB! Over 150 volunteers at the Boal mansion completed over a combined 600 hours of volunteer work. Volunteers had a hand in fall cleanup on the grounds, repairing our driveway damaged by recent heavy rains, full cleanup, and recycling in the Boal Barn Playhouse, and more! We are very proud of the concerted effort, including returning groups like students from Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy and Area School District.

It is the community that makes our nonprofit museum a legacy that extends into the future!

We’d also like to extend our deepest thanks to Best Line Equipment for their in-kind donation of UTV for our use,
Martin Melville Tree Service for the incredible in-kind donation of tree trimming and removal service services ahead of this volunteer day, and Pizza Mia for their provisions of a delicious lunch! 🍕 🚜 🌳
