The first Bluffton Free Street Fair was held for three days in late September of 1898. However, the event got it's start from two organizations. The Wells County Agricultural Society which was formed in 1853 with the purpose of holding a fair where farmers could exhibit their livestock and produce. In 1896, the Bluffton Free Street Fair Association was formed and for two years the local merchants displayed their wares under tents in front of their stores in Bluffton. The two organizations then joined forces to host a combined event in late September of 1898 which became the Bluffton Free Street Fair. To learn more about it, check out the book "The Big Fair" Bluffton Free Street Fair 1898 - 2010.
