Our beautiful Lake View Deck flowers came today, and our gardeners, Karin and Elsa, were hard at work assembling the beautiful mosaic which will fill in and grow over the whole summer. How tall will the flowers be when you visit?

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Christopher Dobbs as the next Executive Director of Adirondack Experience. He succeeds David Kahn, who is retiring after fifteen years with the museum.

Chris joins ADKX from the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana, where he served as Executive Director since 2018. His arrival at ADKX marks a return to the Northeast, where he previously led the Connecticut River Museum and the Noah Webster House.

He holds a Master of Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program and a Bachelor of Arts in American History from Indiana University. He will officially assume his role at ADKX on July 15, 2026.

“I look forward to working with the talented staff and dedicated board to create meaningful experiences for all visitors, to build meaningful partnerships between ADKX and the surrounding community and region, and to strengthen our role as a hub for Adirondack history and culture.” said Chris.

The black flies have arrived here in Blue Mountain Lake, and they certainly can be ferocious! Enjoy this cartoon depicting a “ferocious animal” or black fly attacking one of W. H. H. Murray’s fools that appeared in the September 1870 issue of Punchinello, a short-lived “illustrated humorous and satirical weekly.” A regular feature of the paper was a fictitious account of Punchinello’s travels to various “watering places” or summer resorts.

If you've had enough of the black flies yourself and you're in the area this weekend, come visit us!

Escape the bugs and enjoy our indoor (and outdoor) campus and exhibitions. Starting Friday we're open 7 days a week, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Today is International Museum Day; this year’s theme is “Museums Uniting a Divided World.”

Here at Adirondack Experience our exhibitions bridge the gap between generations and serve as a reference point to observe and study changes in the land. People come here, whether it’s their first time or 100th, to connect with the deep history, craftsmanship, and culture of the Adirondack region.

Adirondack Experience aims to be a place where our unique stories can be shared and understood with respect. From preserving the region's rich heritage to amplifying diverse voices, understanding our shared past is key to building a better future.

We can’t wait to welcome you all back! We open for the season THIS FRIDAY! We’ll be open 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM 7 days a week, including holidays.

Our staff gathered this morning to celebrate last summer’s artist-in-residence, Reka Szabo artworks, and her newly completed installation! Réka even joined us remotely from Italy to see her piece fully assembled for the very first time.

Comprised of eight unique panels, this stunning installation “draws on iconic Adirondack motifs, subtly interwoven with embroidery patterns from my own cultural heritage.”

Come check it out for yourself—we open ONE WEEK from today! We have an incredible season of events and programs in store, and we can’t wait to welcome you all back.
