In case you missed it, the Jonathan Fisher House is officially closed for the season, but behind the scenes, there’s still plenty of work underway!

This winter, our dedicated Board and friends are tackling important restoration projects, updating our archives database, and laying the groundwork for what’s ahead. None of this would be possible without the support of our community.

We run a small but mighty operation, which means every gift makes a real difference in preserving Jonathan Fisher’s legacy and keeping local history alive for future generations.

This May, we received a generous $10,000 grant from the 1772_foundation and mainepreservation to support our ongoing preservation work at the Jonathan Fisher House.

This funding will go directly toward essential material preservation efforts and builds on the $247,000 grant we received earlier this year through the Historic Buildings Community Grant Program. We’re grateful for the State’s continued investment in preserving Maine’s historic places.

Preservation is about more than maintaining old buildings. It’s about protecting the stories, history, and identity of our communities for generations to come. We’re thankful to Maine Preservation, the State, and the 1772 Foundation for believing in this work and helping us carry it forward.

Join us at the Jonathan Fisher House this Sunday, October 11 from noon–2 PM for our annual c***r pressing and celebration of the end of our tour season.

Bring your apples, pears, or other fruit and take a turn at the press. We’ll also have live music, refreshments, activities, and guided tours of Fisher’s historic orchard.

Free and open to everyone. Donations are always welcome.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a wonderful brunch at the historic Parker House in Blue Hill!

We’re especially grateful to John Bates for opening his home and helping make the morning possible. It was a great opportunity to gather with friends of the Jonathan Fisher House, enjoy good food and conversation, and gather in celebration of the historic places that nurture and define our community.

Join us next on Sunday, October 11 from noon–2 PM at the Jonathan Fisher House for our annual autumn celebration and Apple C***r Pressing. We’ll have live music, refreshments, orchard tours, and community c***r pressing. Bring some apples if you have them!

The Jonathan Fisher House will begin its regularly scheduled seasonal hours change next week. From Labor Day through Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we’ll be open Fridays & Saturdays, 1–4 PM.

This annual change happens every year as we move into late summer, and we look forward to welcoming visitors during our adjusted schedule. Tours take about 45 minutes to an hour, so please plan to arrive by 3:30 PM to begin your visit.

Please join us on Saturday, September 19, from 1–4 PM as preservation timber framer Nevan Carling hosts a live hewing demonstration at the Fisher House, showcasing how logs were transformed into usable timbers using hand tools similar to those Jonathan Fisher used more than 200 years ago.

As part of the ongoing restoration of the Fisher House, Nevan will be preparing timber for sill repairs while sharing the history and craftsmanship behind this traditional building technique. Visitors are welcome to stop by, watch the process, ask questions, and learn more about the preservation work taking place at the house.

This free & family friendly program is open to the public! Join us for an afternoon of history, craftsmanship, and preservation in action.
