Lori Sassani is a classically trained fine artist and second-generation artist whose creative journey began in childhood. Under the guidance of her father, Mark Sassani (who had a solo show at the Exchange Gallery in 2023), she received art lessons and an introduction to the rich world of art history. Painting alongside him and frequent visits to art museums became the foundation of her artistic inspiration. Her mother’s encouragement to create and appreciate art further nurtured her passion.

Lori earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and currently lives in Brazil. Working primarily in oil, she captures the beauty of everyday life through narrative works that evoke mood and emotion. Her pieces feature familiar, relatable subjects, inviting viewers to interpret and explore the layers of meaning within her art. Find out more at LoriSassani.com.

Depictions of people most often include faces -- the part of the body that we look at most. Lori Sassani made a very interesting painting here showing only other parts, and no faces. Entitled "Between Tides, Paraty, Rio de Janeiro", the oil on paper measures 16 inches high by 12 inches wide and has a price of $350.

Lori's solo show at the Exchange Gallery in Bloomsburg runs through this Friday, the 4th of September.

We've got another concert video to share with you: The Exchange's Listening Room presents the Ann Kerstetter Band! We made the recording just this week, on August 26th.

As part of its mission to bring the arts to all communities throughout our region, The Exchange has hosted a monthly Blues/Americana/Roots Listening Room since the summer of 2017.

Sound and lighting for this concert by William Jay; video camera by Robyn Madara Jay; roadie help from Roger Tapp; introduction, still photos, and video editing by Exchange executive director Oren B. Helbok.

---------------------------------------

Take a woman driven to entertain her audience, add a voice reminiscent of the velvet of Etta James and the gravel of Janis Joplin, and back with extremely talented musicians who blend as a single unit with her to bring it all back home to you. The Ann Kerstetter Band is one hard act to follow.

At The Exchange, the band played great Blues, originals, and Americana, with tight vocal harmonies and original arrangements. Ann is driven to entertain her audience, and when you see her perform she will make a believer out of you!

------------------------------------------------------

On the last Wednesday of almost every month, and occasionally on other days, beginning at 7 p.m., musicians perform in our intimate space in the Exchange Gallery at 24 East Main Street, up close and personal. We feature a range of acts – solo artists and small bands, acoustic and electric – in an atmosphere conducive to enjoying and experiencing the music: just a few dozen concertgoers, the musician(s), and the music.

We have uploaded dozens of videos of Listening Room; find links here on YouTube and at ExchangeArts.org/listening-room. We have also uploaded Coffeehouse Series concerts recorded in Berwick; find them at ExchangeArts.org/coffeehouse-series.

Did you stop by the Art Cart tent at Bloomsburg ArtFest this past Saturday? Anne Cosper, our facilitator, had these reflections:

"Hooray for another successful Art Fest! Here are some of the highlights from my day:

"A little girl from one of my kid groups shouting from across the street 'Miss Anne, Miss Anne, I'm in kindergarten!'

"A grandmother, daughter, and teenage granddaughter, three generations making gnomes. An Art Cart first?

"Ashley sitting next to me making her gnome. We can learn a lot from Ashley, she's fearless and always herself.

"My final crafters were a trio of sorority sisters. They were so pleased with their gnomes that they were going to change the house decorations and post the gnomes on their doors.

"I was surprised by how many adults, without kids, stopped to make the project, an interesting trend, maybe.

"Finally, it was great to see so many people out and about, and of course, the opportunity to catch up with friends and acquaintances.

Thank you to everyone for an all around great day."
