For those going to the Blandford Fair this coming Labor Day Weekend, make sure to stop by the Blandford Historical Society display in the Sugar Shack. We will also have merchandise for sale there including T-shirts, 250 Mugs, books, maps, postcards, etc.

From the diary of Sadie Herrick Knittel
September 1, 1951
Ther 56. Foggy, cloudy and cold. Rained some. Gretchen washed upstairs. Fred picked corn and beans and shelled the beans and I put up 9 1/2 pt boxes of corn, 2 boxes beans and 3 boxes succotash. Did dishes twice, made potato, bacon and lettuce, baked beans, made blackberry and plum pie. Slept in p.m. Carl down in a.m. Gretchen and children to store in p.m. At 6 Fred called to accident on Otis Road. At 7 Gretchen and children and Fred up to Fair ground. Gretchen home at 8 and Dick brought Fred home at 9.

September 1, 1872
Pleasant but cold. Enos don’t take the milk today. Abbie and the children gone to church. I am just realizing Abbie is going to leave me awhile. It quite overcomes me. I cannot keep the tears back.
Noon George brought little Arthur so he is my company. Henry and Sarah went in the afternoon. George and Lissa come to tea.

August 31, 1951
Ther 64. Beautiful morning. Fred went to Chester to work. Ther 80 at 11 a.m. Hot. At 11, Gretchen, children and I to Conway. Stopped at Howard Johnsons for dinner. Got to Nell’s at 2-10 and staid until 3-30. Had a nice visit with she and Walt. Home at 5 p.m. I made plum pie in morn. Gretchen made creamed codfish for supper. She gave children baths and put Scott to bed, then she up to Mrs. Webber’s to a cafeteria com. meeting. Fred staid upstairs with Scott. Gretchen home at 12.
