Emily Wolf is a Michigan artist currently working primarily in oil painting. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Central Michigan University in 2006, specializing in printmaking. Emily now paints from her home studio in East Lansing, as well as working as a framing specialist at a local gallery. Emily exhibits her work locally and around Michigan and is always happy to meet fellow artists and explore new creative opportunities.




“My work is constantly evolving, but a primary focus for me with painting has always been taking people into their own private world when they view my art. With my imaginative abstract pieces, there are no limitations to that world, no boundaries. By playing with different painterly effects and inserting bits of recognizable shapes into the composition, I invite the viewer to create their own interpretation or story line as well as simply enjoying the artwork from an aesthetic standpoint.

With my newer series, I delve into the world outside my imagination. I like to examine objects or pieces of nature until they seem to be communicating something, then translate what I see onto canvas by breaking up my paint into little chunks. By creating very full compositions and sometimes using extremely close views of the subject matter, I can really highlight the interesting details in our world that usually go unnoticed. I also use the play of light and shadows to help create a sort of quiet drama in the scenes that I create. With all of my paintings, the scene becomes a view into a special place, a piece of a world. My goal is always to give my subject matter a unique voice and provide the viewer with an unexpected and pleasant experience.”

SCHAROLETTE CHAPPELL GALLERY WELCOMES POPULAR LANSING ARTIST TO SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN ART COMMUNITY

ARTIST SOLO EXHIBITION DEMONSTRATES STRONG ABILITY TO WORK IN TWO DIFFERENT GENRES

Oak Park, MI, August 29, 2013 – Beginning October 4th, the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio and Gallery will present Microcosms 2013, a solo exhibition to the art community of southeastern Michigan. The exhibition will provide audiences with a chance to connect with Emily Wolf, a popular local artist from Lansing, who earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Central Michigan University in 2006. The twenty-five oil-on-canvas works featured in Microcosms 2013 embody Wolf’s ability and versatility in working with oils in two different genres of art.

“My work is constantly evolving…I invite the viewer to create their own interpretation or story…” Wolf says, “With my newer series…I can really highlight the interesting details in our world that usually go unnoticed.”

The exhibition will be on display at the Scharolette Chappell Gallery through November 1st, 2013.

A Juried Art Exhibition

For better or for worse, body modification has been used for many things. Among the most popular forms of body modification, tattoos have transcended from markers of rites of passage to elaborate body art defining the bearers’ persona.

Whether or not your mother agrees with your decision to mark yourself, there is still a meaningful background behind the art of tattoos. The purpose of this exhibition is to give local tattoo artists the opportunity to elucidate the beauty of body modification and exemplify the process behind the art in a fun, yet professional environment.

The Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery sponsors Insert Pigment Here – an exhibition featuring two-dimensional works of art. The exhibition occurs on October 11th – October 30th, 2013 at the Gateway Gallery at the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery in Oak Park, Michigan. The opening night reception will be held on Friday, October 11th at 7:00 PM.

Open to all Michigan artists, 18+ years old
Illustrations & Photography of tattoos will be accepted
$25 non-refundable entry fee
