Alameda Family Services (AFS) is pleased to announce a FREE Diaper & Wipe Distribution Event on November 5, 2026, from 10 AM to Noon.

Our distribution events will be held at The Alameda Food Bank, at 677 W Ranger Ave, Alameda, CA 94501.

Once you submit the registration form, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions; please review them carefully.

Nearly 100 family members and friends gathered together for an afternoon of exploring stretchy, squishy, and fluffy materials, as well as building and telling stories with LEGO bricks and KEVA plank at Habitot’s “Worldwide Day of Play” celebration. Big thanks to Supervising Librarian, Sheila Lew, and the Berkeley Public Library North Branch for sharing their space and for helping us set up and publicize this special event. The Worldwide Day of Play, a global event founded by Nickelodeon focuses on getting children and their families active, including participating in activities that don’t involve screens or electronic devices.

Thanks to all of you who came to our Mobile Museum at Oaktoberfest.

Over 760 parents and children (!) visited Habitot at the “Parent Chill Zone” at Oakland’s annual Oaktoberfest celebration in the Dimond District on Sunday, October 4. Our Waterworks exhibit was especially welcome on one of the hottest days of the year. Many thanks to the Dimond Improvement Association for including us.

The Mobile Museum at Oaktoberfest was supported with funds from First 5 Alameda County , with additional support from the Dimond Improvement Association and Oaktoberfest.

Join us at Downtown Berkeley’s 7th annual Halloween Hootenanny on Friday, 10/30, 3-7pm at the Downtown Berkeley (BART) Plaza between Allston Way and Center Street.

Kids and grownups will be painting and decorating mini pumpkins (thank you, Trader Joe’s) into take-home works of art with colorful paints, glitter, googlie eyes, and decorative craft materials. The Hootenanny event features live music, fortune tellers, food merchants, a costume contest, and not-too-spooky tricks and treats for young and old. Admission is free and costumes are encouraged. Thank you to the Downtown Berkeley Association for including Habitot again in this not-too-spooky fall event for families.

Hope to see you tomorrow at our Mobile Museum at Oaktoberfest in the Dimond. Sunday, 10/4, 10am-5pm. We’ll be at the parking lot next to the Dimond Library, 3565 Fruitvale Avenue, Oakland.

This event is held in conjunction with the 19th Annual Oaktoberfest in the Dimond! Oaktoberfest celebrates the history, the flavors, and the people of the Bay Area. Oakland’s Dimond District hosts this one-of-a-kind Fall Festival (combining Oktoberfest with Oakland), welcoming thousands with craft b**r & food, entertainment, arts, and ecology. Oaktoberfest is an event designed not only to celebrate the proud history of a shining district in Oakland, but also to raise funds for improvement projects, community development programs, and future events.

Habitot will be located in the parking lot adjacent to the Dimond Branch of the Oakland Public Library, at 3565 Fruitvale Ave, Oakland, CA 94602. This location is AC Transit accessible and offers easy freeway access, for those traveling across the East Bay.

This Saturday! Celebrate the Worldwide Day of Play with Habitot and the Berkeley Public Library North Branch.

Art activities, STEM play, learn & build, and Sensory Play for young children.

* Stretch & Squish Slime: Poke, pull, and stretch your way through gooey sensory fun!
* Foamy Art: Get creative (and just a wee bit messy) using brushes or fingers with fluffy, textured paint.
* Super Soft Dough Sculpting: Shape, stamp, and create stories with our homemade playdough and our eclectic set of tools.
* 10,000 Brick LEGO Collection: Pick your pieces and start building—from simple houses to silly characters and whatever your heart desires.
*KEVA Plank Creations: Stack, balance, and design epic structures using KEVA wooden planks.

This indoor event is best for kids ages 1-7. Space is limited.

Thank you to the Red Oak Opportunity Foundation (ROOF) for their support. Through ROOF, we're able to bring mobile events like the Worldwide Day of Play Sensory Playdate in North Berkeley to you.

ROOF was established in 1985 when Red Oak Realty’s community of agents witnessed the emerging issue of homelessness in the East Bay. It was decided that ROOF funds would go to organizations that weren’t receiving significant funding elsewhere. This would be focused on housing organizations and education. Along with Red Oak partners and vendors, it has granted more than $1,500,000 to East Bay charitable organizations.
