Founded in 1959 through the efforts of Dorothy Marks McKelvey, local historian, the Berea Historical Society is dedicated to serving the Berea area through the collection, preservation and exhibit of the evidence of the history of Berea and Middleburg Township, along with the interpretation of that evidence to children and adults. The Historical Society sponsors the activities of the Mahler Museum

& History Center, including tours by school children, special exhibits, events and the displays of collections of historical memorabilia. The Society holds monthly meetings that provide programs of historic interest for members and guests. Also available are exhibits for schools and public occasions as well as speakers and traveling exhibits for local groups. Funds are raised through projects, donations and membership dues. Membership in the Society has reached 400 and all members receive the award winning quarterly publication, The Enterprise. Membership is open to anyone interested and willing to assist in achieving the vision. A person becomes a member upon payment of dues. Our appreciation goes to all the volunteers and the Berea Historical Society Officers who help in so many ways. There are many opportunities for volunteers. Regular meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month, September through May except where noted.

Website Update Notice

You may notice some inconsistencies between pages on our website, https://www.bereahistoricalsociety.org/ This is because we are in the process of updating the site page by page.

We recently had two volunteer photographers visit the house and provide us with a wonderful set of updated photos for the website. We’ve also begun adding new donation buttons for PayPal and Zelle. As a nonprofit, these platforms allow us to accept donations without transaction fees. (Please note: Zelle is not functional yet.)

In addition, we’ve widened the site to better fill the screen. we updated our buttons and overall layout. This is a major project and will take some time to complete, but we believe it will be well worth the effort.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve your online experience.

It is the mission of the Berea Historical Society to create an ever-expanding organization that will, for the present and the future, accurately reflect and preserve the history, significance and traditions of Berea and Old Middleburg Township in Northease Ohio
