Historical Society of Bensalem Township - Monthly Meeting, Thursday, October 1, 2026 @7 PM.
Please join us on Thursday, October 1, 2026 @ 7pm for our monthly meeting. We welcome back Historian Mike Jesberger, and his presentation will be "The Revolutionary War Burial Site in Langhorne"
In January 1777, written orders from General George Washington established a hospital in what is now Langhorne, PA. Soldiers from the early battles of the American Revolution were treated here and the casualties were buried nearby. The hospital was closed in May 1777. For generations, the sites history survived only through local stories, until a 1992 archaeological excavation confirmed the legend and discovered the remains of 166 Revolutionary soldiers.

Growden Mansion (a.k.a. Trevose) is the ancestral home of the Growden/Galloway families.
Lawrence and Joseph Growden purchased the property from William Penn in 1681.

MAYOR CONTINUES TO MAKE THE PRESERVATION OF HISTORIC DIORAMAS A PRIORITY

Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo has made the preservation of these historic dioramas a priority. The Township has already removed four dioramas and restored two—one is currently displayed at the Bensalem Municipal Building, and another will soon be exhibited at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown.

The three remaining dioramas, currently obstructed from the rear, will also be carefully removed and preserved by Bensalem Township before the demolition of the mall. They will remain in the care of the Township and Mayor DiGirolamo until appropriate permanent homes can be identified.

The Native American statue/fountain is also a priority, and discussions are already underway regarding its future placement within the Township.

40+ sellers in 3 parking lots surrounding the Historical Society building.

The Historical Society will be selling jewelry, books, vinyl records, and CDs and DVDs inside our building. Pretzels and drinks in the parking lot.
