Meet our gray treefrogs, Minnie and Moocher! 🐸

Take a close look at their large, round toe pads. These specialized pads help them climb trees and grip securely to branches, leaves, and other surfaces with ease.

Minnesota is home to two native species: the Gray Treefrog and Cope's Gray Treefrog. Although they look identical, there's one reliable way to tell them apart, which is their calls. The Gray Treefrog has a slower, deeper trill, while Cope's Gray Treefrog produces a faster, higher-pitched trill.

This is a photo of some guests enjoying some reading time today. We love capturing moments like this!

If you have any science-related picture books (gently used) that you would like to donate to HSC, please bring them anytime!

Employee Spotlight of the Week!

Meet Lauren!

Lauren is an educator and docent here at the Headwaters Science Center! Her favorite part about working here is bringing science into the community and showing people that science is for everyone!

Her favorite branch of science is geology, which ties perfectly into her favorite exhibit: rocks and minerals! Lauren loves seeing the excitement on people’s faces when they recognize one of the rock samples. One of her favorite rocks is fossiliferous limestone.

Fun fact: Lauren’s favorite bird is the turkey vulture! She once drove two hours to a wildlife rehabilitation center with a turkey vulture chilling in her passenger seat.

Employee Spotlight of the Week!

Meet Zoey!

Zoey is an educator, docent, and social media editor here at the Headwaters Science Center. Her favorite part about working here is the animals and helping with outreach programs to Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Minnesota.

Zoey’s favorite areas of science are ornithology and mammalogy. Her love for ornithology ties into one of her favorite things to do outdoors, which is photography, especially bird photography!

And, of course, her favorite exhibit is the one pictured with her in the photo, Ollie, the chinchilla!
