The distinctions of NDNU’s Art Department include:

Two degree options are available:

The Bachelor of Arts in Art, which gives students a broad experience in art through rigorous studio work and the study of art history. The Bachelor of Arts in Art and Graphic Design, which gives students a state-of-the-art education in graphic design concepts and production and web design. All Art Department fac

ulty are artists who exhibit and work professionally in their media. In Art and Graphic Design, our students learn all of the fundamentals of design industry standard software including QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver, among others, in a dedicated Graphic Design Macintosh Lab. Graphic Design majors are required to do an internship in the design field in their senior year. Recent internships undertaken by our Graphic Design students include positions at Siemen's, San Mateo Daily Journal, Parents Press, Keyboard Magazine, and Trisha Holland Design. Both Graphic Design and Fine Art students complete a portfolio of their work prior to graduation. In the area of Fine Art, NDNU students take studio courses in painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture as well as design fundamentals.

Celebrate and Reconnect

Notre Dame de Namur University is hosting a three-day series of alumni reunion dinners celebrating each school (School of Business and Management, College of Arts and Sciences, and School of Education and Leadership) and we want you to be a part of this special week-long event!

Celebrate with us on March 25 – 28 as we remember our school, reconnect with faculty and classmates and rediscover all that is new with your alma mater. Join us for networking, dinner and stimulating conversation with your fellow alums.

Whether it’s been 15 months or 50 years since you graduated from Notre Dame de Namur University, Alumni Reunion Week provides you with the opportunity to catch up with former faculty and classmates as well as show your appreciation for the School or College that helped shape your life. Members of all classes are invited to register to attend one or all of the Alumni Reunion dinner events. On Saturday, March 28 you, your family and friends can enjoy a private sailboat tour of the scenic San Francisco Bay.

Drawing on your Inner-Life: A workshop by the Roots of the Spirit Artists Lonnie Holley, Charlie Lucas, Kevin Sampson
The artists will be working directly with students in three sections of drawing courses, and all interested Art majors and minors, They will also do demonstration drawings and talk about their working process. Facilitated by Betty Friedman and Rick Deragon. Thursday Sept. 18 2:00-5:00 P.M. Madison 1-4

Site-specific sculpture installation with Lonnie Holley
Lonnie Holley will work directly with students on an installation project of a site specific sculpture made from found materials in the Gallery Techniques course, Art 2631 C-01. This is Holley’s forté. Students will be invited to drop in to see how the art is progressing. Facilitated by Robert Poplack. Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 17 and 18. Wiegand Gallery

Community Engagement and CBL at Larkin Street Youth Center
The Roots artists travel to the Larkin Street Youth Center in SF accompanied by NDNU students to work with homeless youth. Students from the Art department and the Gallery Techniques course will accompany the artists. Coordinated and facilitated by Robert Poplack with Peter Carpou, director of the Larkin Street Youth Center art program. Friday, Sept. 19th 3PM.

Public Lecture and Opening Reception
The artists will present a lecture during the reception of the Roots of the Spirit exhibition. The lecture is open to the public. All members of the NDNU community are invited. Students in ART 2635 C-01 Gallery Techniques and ART2310 Outdoor Painting are required to attend. Facilitated by Robert Poplack. Sunday, Sept. 21 2:00-5:00 PM. Wiegand Gallery

Painting Workshop with Kevin Sampson & Charlie Lucas
The artists will be working directly with students from the Outdoor Painting, 2-D Design and the Color-Design Courses and all interested majors and minors.
