Fiber D by E

Fiber D by E I consider myself a fiber artist who uses other media to enhance my fiber creations. Life is inspiring! I also will show you my works and works in progress.

I see beauty in my daily walks, my children, the way the light comes through the window.... I plan to share the beauty of the travels my husband and I are able to do now that we are both "officially retired" from our chosen careers. I challenge myself in many way. I will show you these challenges: the steps along the way, the things I have learned, would change, and what I would keep. Above all

I want you to enjoy the trip with me. I am a retired teacher. I have taught all grade levels: kindergarten through 12th grade. I have a masters in Special Education, undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education, and Sociology. I am basically a self taught fiber artist. I have taken weaving classes on and off for thirty years. I voraciously read to increase my knowledge of fiber techniques. Now with more "free time" I plan to further my education in the fiber field. Being raised in a creative, fabric rich environment while I was growing up encouraged my love of the feel of cloth and color. Instead of focusing on fabric and sewing, I chose fiber. My fibers of choice are luscious yarns, ribbons, and threads. The yarn contents are usually linens, silks, wool, cotton, and many other luxurious fibers. My main chosen method of putting those fibers together is weaving. I weave jewelry, cloth, rugs, wall hangings, and clothing. Challenges will be using various weaving methods, combining fibers with other media in a pleasant unique way, and trying out new (to me) gadgets. I have dedicated my life to learning and education. There is so much to learn in the field of fiber. As a teenager I counted cross-stitched, learned to macramé, embroider, and did needlepoint. One winter break I made a Christmas present of macramé with jute around a wire hoop. It was very “seventy-ish!”

I took my first weaving class, and I felt that I had found my niche. I currently weave on a rug loom, a 36” Schadt Baby Wolf floor loom, tapestry loom, and inkle loom. I do card weaving, circle weaving, and pin weaving using a ceiling tile. I was privileged to weave a portion of a large public wall hanging as well as church paraments. I have done several personal commissions and spoken at various gatherings about my fiber art. I have participated in the ANAC (Nebraska Art Club) traveling show, and have won awards at the county and state level. It is my goal to take my art to the next level. Come along with me for the ride. I have projects to finish, and techniques to test. I will show you all along!
