Newsletter #6 is officially out, and this edition highlights the extraordinary journey of Josy Trageser; born and raised in France and later one of Cincinnati’s most dynamic cultural ambassadors in the enameling world.

Josy was not only a connector of people and places; she was an enamel artist in her own right. Her work drew from the traditions she encountered abroad, from Fulda to Venice, while embracing the spontaneity and color that defined her personality. She experimented boldly, shared generously, and helped bring European enameling perspectives into Cincinnati’s growing community.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Josy built bridges between our city and artists across Europe, shaping the international presence our enameling community enjoys today.

We’re proud to share her story and her work.

Participants explored wirework, color building, and kiln firing; each step revealing the magic of enamel in motion.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the studio feel alive with energy.

We love seeing this community grow, one fired piece at a time.

We’re excited to share that our next CEC workshop will feature the separation technique, taught by Tom Ellis. This method creates striking, dimensional effects in enamel, and it’s a great opportunity for both new and returning students to expand their skills.

If you’ve been curious about trying separation, or want to refine your approach, this session will be a perfect fit.

You can register directly on our website under More → Multi‑Day Workshops.

Our newest newsletter is now live, and this month we’re sharing something especially meaningful.

Tom wrote a beautiful reflection for this issue - thoughtful, honest, and full of the same generosity he brings to every workshop and conversation here at the CEC.

His words add something special to this edition, and we’re excited for you to read it.

All current members will receive their copy by email, so keep an eye on your inbox.

TIME: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Who Should Take These Workshops?

Anyone who wants to learn more about enameling. You do not need to have any prior knowledge or experience. We start from the beginning and what you need to know will be presented.

What Will You Learn?

Learn to control results by discovering and understanding the fundamentals of enameling. Become proficient by knowing procedure and material relationships and their importance to each other. Predict what should happen and be able to understand what you see happen. Repeat a procedure and have it come out the same each time.
