"Real Silk, Real Diamonds, Real Sterling....Real History" The Police Gazette World Diamond Belt was first won in the ring in 1889 by the Great John L. Sullivan after a 75 round, 2 hour 16 minute fight with Jake Kilrain that Sports Illustrated recently called "The Outlaw Brawl That Started It All" and is the most beautiful, most historic belt in all of the combat sports out there. Its housed in Belfast, NY where Sullivan trained 130 years ago, better known as Knuckle Town, USA.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Caretaker of the Police Gazette Belts
President of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame
Burt Continues to Bring Spotlight to Belfast
BELFAST, NEW YORK – Just days ago, Scott Burt returned from Biloxi, Mississippi, where bare knuckle boxing is now legal. While there, he crowned Chicago’s Arnold Adams with the first American Police Gazette Heavyweight Championship belt and title given since 1882. In doing so Scott continues to reinforce Belfast, New York, as the World’s Bare Knuckle Boxing Mecca and home of the sport’s only Hall of Fame. Both leading up to the fight and following it, Scott found himself and Belfast the focus of many major sports news outlets, all wanting to know more about the coveted Police Gazette Belt, its history, origin, and connection to Belfast. Scott happily obliged. “There are two belts I am the caretaker of,” he said “both without exception are America’s Oldest, Most Historic, Most Sought-After belts in our sport. The ‘Police Gazette Belt’ is for America’s Champion, and was last won by John L. Sullivan in 1882 in Mississippi City, then there is the ‘Police Gazette Diamond Belt’ which Sullivan also won in his most famous fight of all. That took place in 1889 in Richburg, Mississippi. The Diamond Belt represents the World Championship. I’m the caretaker of both belts, American and World. That historic 1889 fight lasted 2 hours, 16 minutes outside in 104 degree weather in a dirt ring, and went 75 rounds. Sullivan won $20,000, the Police Gazette Diamond Belt, and became a living legend.”
Thanks to Scott it is no longer a secret to the World that Sullivan trained in Allegany County’s small, rural, yet very proud Irish town of Belfast, New York. There in 1889 Sullivan prepared for that fight under the watchful eye of his trainer William Muldoon. It is also no longer a secret thanks to Scott’s efforts that Sullivan’s training barns now house, and have for 10 years, the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame - the World’s only Hall of Fame dedicated to these combat pioneers.
“Whenever you see a belt in America raised,” Scott concluded, “no matter what the sport, whether it be wrestling, boxing, whatever, it owes its origin 100% to the Police Gazette Belts, America’s first ever.” When asked about why the Police Gazette picked him to carry on the historic belt’s legend, he stated “Steve Westlake, the owner of the more than century and a half old tabloid contacted me out of the blue a few years ago, said he had been watching me for several years, could tell my only motive was to preserve history, appreciated that desire, and admired my honesty which is unfortunately a bit of a rarity in the boxing world. Steve just unilaterally asked me if I would be in charge of the belts and help bring them back to prominence in the eyes of the boxing world. One could argue I’ve been successful doing that. Not only have I been center ring presenting the belts on Worldwide pay-per-view and using that opportunity to boast of Belfast, but the real proof is if you simply check out social media - boxers are fighting over wanting a shot at it - a belt many a few years ago did not know existed.”
