Edit: I don't have a clue why this video is sideways! Apologies!

Metal is like magic to me. 32 years into art, and I am still amazed at how such a small weld can hold such a magnificent thing upright!

In the background is Tribe Called Quest which is streaming on the Seattle radio station KEXP... it's their pledge drive this week, and for the entire week they are playing the top 500 songs from the 1990s as voted on by the listeners. If you've never heard of this radio station, feel free to tune in! If you know of it, consider a small donation!

Well... yesterday was a cut, and today is a big burn on my forearm, and the worst part is... I don't even know when I got it! 🤣🤣

This sculpture is coming into the world kicking and screaming!

If it doesn't punch me in the face or call me mean names and make me cry, it should be done tomorrow!

STAINLESS MAGIC! I wasn't able to see the bottom side of my joint between the two elements of the sculpture until a later time. Once I flipped the sculpture, there was a very large gap. Luckily! I got the skillz!

1. Small pieces cut to fill gap.
2. Tacked in place.
3. Magic! (Bottom side of photo.)

OPEN for business! There's only one side left to grind and rework on the entire sculpture, and then after a quick double check of the fit up, I start putting a finish on the entire thing!

In my spare time, I put the first of two white rubber coatings on my defective storage container. The second one goes on 24 hours from now!

And in my Spare spare time I'm doing my best to transfer all my data from an old dying computer to a newer computer. I nearly lost 32 years of photographs documenting every sculpture I've created.

SOLD! There are only a couple of extremely rare self portraits left! Everyone is unique and made from the burns, tears, and paint of a real artist's work pants! One has a photograph of the artist's eye, and the other does not.

Support an artist! Buy his weird self-portrait! There is a chance this will be worth millions at auction one day!

LOL! That 1st picture! I literally had just taken it, and yet it took me a full minute to try to figure out what it was a picture of! My insulated studio jacket has apparently seen better days!

Some of you may remember that earlier in the year, I made a few self-portraits! They were quite literally created from my burned, painted, and ripped studio pants (some even have a photograph of the artist's EYE!).

A lot of the proceeds from your purchases went directly to brand new studio pants! I thought it was about time my clothes started paying for themselves! 😁😁

Now, my jacket has seen better days as well! I've suffered through with the zipper only going up a few inches, but now the only way it goes on and off is over my head! Winter is coming, and here's your opportunity to have an original, one-of-a-kind, signed self-portrait of James Kelsey, the artist! Your good fortune will allow me to rush off and purchase a brand new jacket!

These have been sitting on the back burner of my mind for over 10 years! I finally exorcised that desire to create them over the last few weeks!

The new series is called Blue Ocean; it doesn't mark a new direction in my studio practice but rather a side quest! When these sell, I may create a few more, but for the moment, I return to my stainless steel sculpture beginning tomorrow! I have an art show application due in 2 weeks and need to somehow build an entire 7 foot sculpture before then!

Art is experimentation!

I had wanted the blackest of black paint, which, scientifically speaking, is flat black... so after 2 days of hand painting the frames, I was more than a little disappointed that they do not contrast as I envisioned and appear gray or chalky.

After doing a deep dive on the internet at 4 o'clock this morning, I made the management decision to go with a satin black instead. It's much shinier, but as you can see, it appears to be much blacker, and that magnificent blue just explodes off the canvas!
