“It isn’t just about the memories, it’s about who you share them with.”
It’s safe to say there are thousands of us having memories of the town we grew up in-or the towns that bordered Bayville, New York.
Reminisce about the old days with photographs or stories, and you’ll elicit comments from many people. But over time, their stories have gotten lost among threads of other stories on other pages; with no real space to archive on a singular page.
And so, the vault.
Well now, two things might happen.
One, you’ll start to think about it.
Two, you’ll be motivated to go into your garage or basement and scan or shoot with your phone; whatever pictures you’ve come across over the years- you as a kid, the house you grew up in; who we went to school with, who we played with, class pictures- just regular Bayville life.
Parades, the stands- now there’s some stories, GI Joe’s, Ice Skating behind the Village Hall, Steve’s Pier Memorabilia; kids from Locust Valley and The Brookville’s, Oyster Bay. Friends, Fables, Stories. Heck, you can even exaggerate the truth on this page. No one cares anymore! ;-)
You get the picture...you remember the smell of low tide and watched fiddler crabs dive into mud holes.
Or, perhaps you have personal knowledge of the many stories of diving off the Bayville Bridge (never having done so yourself) ...or fishing for guppies in the swamps. Growing up in a town surrounded by woods, yet walking to school unafraid- except maybe for the crickets.
Sharing memories with others, seems to unite us in a unique form of camaraderie in which our combined memories provide us with a kind of historical-bond; and in the telling we leave for many- an archive for the future.
Pictures with captions speak a thousand words. So post what’s important to you.
This will also make available, a place for Dave and the Bayville Museum to download images from.
There’s even a search engine to find topics.
I’m tellin’ ya...this internet stuff is gonna be big. ;-)
So before we forget...
Bayville, New York
